help needed with my model L electrolux (pics)

Help Support VacuumLand:

In the U.S., Electroluxes had chrome-plated steel wands until the Model AE in 1956 when aluminum wands were first introduced. The AE actually was a crossover model -- I've seen AEs with both steel and aluminum wands. The one my parents had had steel wands.

The AE aluminum wands had a matte 'brushed' finish, then when the AF came out, the aluminum surface was smoother and had a slight sheen. That same wand was made until the plastic Electroluxes came out with plastic wands. Erugh. Barf. Icky-poo.

If your Electrolux has one aluminum and one steel wand, then they've just gotten mis-matched somewhere along the way.

I'm wondering if it has a real lux motor or an aftermarket unit, like an Lamb motor. I think that would be easier than having the original modified.

hi

my boy friend and I thought it was repainted at first to. But the stickers on it are verry old, and there are no traces of paint on it. I have mailed the lady and hope to get some answers soon. She told me that the motor was modified so I will open it up this week and we will see.

Hey Edgar:

The parts that are with your L are actually from a model F. If they were with it when she bought it then she bought it used.

As far as the colour goes I suspect it just needs a good cleaning. It looks like its been in a house with a heavy smoker.

the answer

Hi everybody,the mystery is solved.
The vacuum cleaner is bought in a second hand store in 1968 by the lady's father. In 1973 they moved to holland and took the cleaner with them. 1973 is also the year that the motor was rewired for 220 volt. THe atachments has always been with it, but it is possible that a second hand store in new york called MR Grey made 1 out of 2. After cleaning it still keeps this strange shine so I want to take the whole thing appart shave it and re paint it. Ater i decide wich color it will be ( i think white i will start looking for the atachments.

If life for that machine began that early, than I would definitely say that it has been repainted. The gold US model came out around the time of the Golden J which would put it at 1974, being the anniversary year. The sticker may have been placed on the machine when it was brought in for servicing.

Have fun rebuilding your machine!

motor

Ok, so now it is in a lot of pieces lol. I took a pic of the motor and I am not sure if it is rewinded or just another motor. Also ther were sparks coming out of the machine they told me, but so far I can not find anything wrong with it. its new color will be gold.
