Yes, there was an 87; exactly the same as the 89 minus the cord winder and automatic shut-off. You're also missing the 83; exactly the same as your 86 1st version minus the cord winder.

If you want to get technical there were three slightly different 89's over the years. First had polished aluminum trim under the handle (1967-70?). Second had green trim under the handle; same as the body of the vac (1970-72?). Third was called "89E" rather than "Z89", presumably because the electric hose was standard on it, and was a noticeably darker green than the earlier ones (1972-3?). This last version also had a different motor; at least it sounds different to me, and I believe this same motor was used in all the AP series as well. Of course there were 3 different 89 power nozzles, but I don't think they necessarily match the dates mentioned above (which could be wrong; I'm best-guessing). Doug Smith would know better than I.

In addition to this, there "might" have been an 88 2nd version with all red trim and white-hubcap wheels. Most of the ones I've seen, and the one I have, has polished aluminum at the front/rear ends and under the handle, but see the picture for the "all-red" version. Not sure if this is cobbled together, or the real deal. Either way, its an 88, and its hard to get better than that

Found a picture of mine that shows the distinctive color difference in the 89s. I don't have an example with the polished aluminum handle trim.

Other differences I can think of...post-1972, they must have done away with the little cord clip on the side of the bag door, when the pigtail electric hose was standard. Some of the wheels had solid aluminum hubcaps; some had green with a silver screw down the middle. Up until '72, the serial number was on the front aluminum trim inside the bag door; post-'72, it was moved to the "grille" on the back of the motor.

My memory (which is never prodigious except when thinking about Electrolux) tells me that Doug Smith posted the following dates for the 89 PN's...PN II (1967-9); PN III (1969-1971); PN IV (1971-3).

I believe all the attachments were the same, except for that "dual-action" (?) nozzle that came out around '72.

Anyway, this goes far beyond your question of "filling in the gaps", so I'll

The red '88 pictured in post # 134562 is the same one that I found in our house when I came home from school one day. The salesman had been over demonstrating it and left it so that my mom could think about it and talk to my dad. No one was home so I gave it a quick try. I remember my dad saying that there was no way he was going to pay $275 for a vacuum cleaner so my mom had to call the salesman to come and pick it up.

Shame on you, Gary

You KNOW you were supposed to completely disassemble the machine, hide each part in a different place in the house, and then swear to the salesman "Why, you took the machine away yesterday!"

That one in the picture is particularly cool because it has the optional trigger handle, and, of course, the Holy Grail PNI. I thought it might have been put together with trim from an 86, because I don't remember ever seeing such an 88 before. BTW, that picture is not my machine, but a long since ended Ebay auction (why I didn't bid on it is one of the stupider decisions I've made).
