First had polished aluminum trim under the handle (1967-70?). Second had green trim under the handle; same as the body of the vac (1970-72?). Third was called "89E" rather than "Z89", presumably because the electric hose was standard on it, and was a noticeably darker green than the earlier ones (1972-3?). This last version also had a different motor; at least it sounds different to me, and I believe this same motor was used in all the AP series as well. Of course there were 3 different 89 power nozzles, but I don't think they necessarily match the dates mentioned above (which could be wrong; I'm best-guessing). Doug Smith would know better than I. </span>

Some of the wheels had solid aluminum hubcaps; some had green with a silver screw down the middle. Up until '72, the serial number was on the front aluminum trim inside the bag door; post-'72, it was moved to the "grille" on the back of the motor. </span>

The 88 with all red is a composite - all the 88's had silver trim. The red trim is from the 86.

The red '88 pictured in post # 134562 is the same one that I found in our house when I came home from school one day. The salesman had been over demonstrating it and left it so that my mom could think about it and talk to my dad. No one was home so I gave it a quick try. I remember my dad saying that there was no way he was going to pay $275 for a vacuum cleaner so my mom had to call the salesman to come and pick it up.

I thought it might have been put together with trim from an 86, because I don't remember ever seeing such an 88 before. BTW, that picture is not my machine, but a long since ended Ebay auction (why I didn't bid on it is one of the stupider decisions I've made).</span>
