Help me chose a new vac!

My 10 year old Dyson is on its way out. I'm shopping for a replacement. What is the best vacuum and why? What should I spend? I looked at the Rainbow but cannot see any reason for spending that kind of money. Does anybody here swear by their vacuum? If so, which brand and why.

Point me in the right direction. I have analysis paralysis.

Miele are far less than rainbows and are just fantastic cleaners. That would be my first choice. also some of dysons new models are incredible and affordable.

Surprisingly, I'm pretty impressed with my Shark Navigator Lift-Away for the price. If you shop around, you can find a new one for around $150.

If you are looking for Upright bagless nothing can touch a Dyson but be wise when you buy. certain models are over priced but many of the cheaper models feature older tech, the difference between a dc07 and a dc27 is huge the newer models feature much better cleaning head tech , previously a Dyson week point. A dc25 is a personal fav as is the new 41 I would stay clear of the cylinder Dysons though, they are not as good as there upright counterparts and are out cleaned by many other premium bagless cylinder vacuums like the Electrolux ultraactive which doesn't have the same quality cyclonic system so youwill have to clean the filters more often but it will suck the daylights out of your carpet

I recently purchased a Sebo Felix. They run $599.00 and you usually get free shipping. It comes with crevice tool and upholster tool, along with a premium parquet tool for bare floors. This way you get an upright and a canister in one vacuum. I am very pleased with mine. It has a great power nozzle with a swivel head that gets in tight places and the brush roll is easy to replace. Look at Sebo US and you will see the different colors available along with short videos on using the machine, such as changing the filter bag etc.

For what a Dyson sells for, around $300 and up, there are so many nice cleaners to choose from. But because you've owned a Dyson for ten years now, I'm assuming you like having a bagless vacuum. In that case, another Dyson or a used Rainbow is really the only way to go. Every other bagless vacuum is either junk or requires lots of maintenance, and none of them last too long.

If you are willing to try a bagged vacuum, I would certainly try pr-21's suggestion and try a Sebo. Try finding a Riccar or Simplicity dealer as well. They are not for everyone, but they are made in America and are great at deep cleaning carpets. Some of their best models are under $400.

The miele Titan is a good buy, if i didnt have a miele already i would buy that model. i was never imperssed with riccar At all. or rainbow after owning one i wouldnt buy one again . People complain about storing the dirt in the closet. it not like it loose in the closet. its containedd in the vacuum bag just my 2 cents .

I can recommend the Kirby wholeheartedly you can get them inexpensive new. Ask for some tips on this forum and I am sure you can learn the secrets to get a Kirby on the cheap. I also LOVE my shark navigator. If you are going for a shark get e original NOT the lift-away. The original cleans better and has more cyclones to spin dirt out more effectively.

I love my New Rainbow E2 Onyx

It stores very easy just hang parts on the rack Machine takes up a little space. I love the fact that you just pour out all the dirt and dust and rinse out the water pan and wipe it clean . Very easy and quick too ! I always wipe all my machine clean after use any way so a Rainbow is no bother at all . My house stays dust free when I use the Rainbow all my other machines I have to dust more often .

Without a doubt, buy a Miele

The Miele vacuums are the best vacuums on the market. Price, functionality, performance,dependability, and great value. Whether you prefer a canister or an upright, the Miele is the way to go. If you are a canister person, there is a Miele out there for you. They offer different canisters for every type of flooring.

I used to be a an Electrolux person. The new Aerus vacuums are way too expensive, much to noisy, not at all user friendly with their poorly designed hoses, and useless attachments. Miele beats Aerus hands down.

Actually, my entire family has made the switch from Aerus/Electrolux to Miele vacuums. My relatives have been using Electrolux products since the early 1950's and we all now have replaced Electrolux with Miele in every one of our households.

Richard, the Kirby cleans much better than the miele for carpeting in my opinion. I find that miele is a close second but you can't beat the Kirby.

Opinions

So, everyone has an opinion and they mostly all conflict with each other. Plus, there are so many brands that I have never heard of before. I am intrigued by the Rainbow, but what is the brands justification for such a high price tag?

I certainly don't have a problem purchasing another Dyson, their bagless system is pretty good in my book. I have never had an issue with storing the dirt in the machine.

hummm. first of price.

you have the dough- Kirby is almost impossible to beat, it deep cleans VERY well and can do alot more than any other machine out there. they are heavy and expensive but you can get one for less than a upright meile with the right negotiating skills.

if you dont want to spend huge bucks i would suggest a commercial sanitair. they are light weight, DURABLE, easy to use, some feature double hepa filtration and out clean almost everything on the market, they run a low $150-325.

if you dont mind getting a used vac go for a Royal all metal upright- they clean amazingly well (some cases better than kirby)are easy to push, they last forever and you can buy attachments for it, down side is using attachments requires removing the belt (no hug issue, just inconvienent) try to find one that was made in the USA. new run $350-$700 and used from $50-150

i have seen very few miele for service, are good deep cleaners, menuver easy and have about the best filtration around, however i feel they are overpriced and replacing a cord may require buying a $200 handle!

i would avoid another dyson, new ones are only getting worse with breakdowns.

I never thought I would live to say this but you might look into the Oreck. The platnum line of uprights. Quiet, powerful as hell, long lasting, light and easy as pie to use, however bags are a little pricey. Plus you get a hell of a service plan. I love my Oreck 21 which was the original of this newer line of uprights. They have gone down in price which is a good thing in this economy.

I love my present pair of daily drivers: a Hoover Tempo Upright for my carpets, an Electrolux UltraSilencer Green for everything else. These two are the easiest vacs I have ever used for each category of cleaning and they were well within my budget. The Hoover Tempo cost me CAD130 and the Electrolux canister cost me CAD400 including tax. As a pair they don't take up much more room than a single power nozzle canister, and they each do the job with excellence - excellent carpet cleaning with the Hoover, and excellent airflow through the hose for bare floor and above-the-floor cleaning with the little lightweight Electrolux. Dirt bag changing is easy on both, and the UltraSilencer is one of the quietest machines I have used since cleaning with the Sanyo canister my parents had in the 1970's.

I swear by these two!!!!
