I do not drink coffee, and I would never pay full price for a Keurig, but I found one sitting outside the dumpster at work and brought it home. I tried it out and it worked perfectly.... it is a model B60. The thing costs between 135 and 150 new and is still a current model, though it has been out for a while now.

I don't know why someone would throw away a perfectly working machine like this, especially one that is so exspensive! I'm enjoying playing with it. I bought a box of hot chocolate K cups and a box of lemon iced tea K cups... they both suck. The lemony part of the tea is really too bitter and the hot chocolate isn't nearly rich enough (I usually make mine with milk instead of water and add way too much powder)....

I bought one of those cheap refillable K cup things so I can fill it with whatever I want and bought some Millstone brand caramel truffle flavored coffee... well apparently I like coffee now because that stuff is amazing! I bought it just for "guests", but I will likely finish it up before I even have any guests... it will be nice to be able to offer people coffee now isntead of sending them to 7-11! The thing is bigger than my Kitchen Aid stand mixer and I can't believe how much counter real estate it takes up! I just coudn't pass it up for free, but I'd never have paid money for one....

Anyway, have you used one and what do you think of them?

Strange how someone would throw out a good coffee machine.Good you are making use out of it.I don't drink coffee either, and like my cocoa strong.Same with my Vita-Mix Choco-banana smoothy drink.Seen the Keurig machines and coffee cartridges sold at Bed Bath Beyond and Best Buy.

As much as I love gadgets, not this one. My sister was gifted one from her boss last Xmas and she's not happy with how huge it is either nor the price of the cups at around 50 to 75 cents a piece. With the bother of the re-usable cups it's not really any easier than making a coffee in a regular coffee maker. Last Sunday when I was over it started acting up so it's gone to the cupboard. Last year I bought her a Hamilton Beach Brew Station (no carafe just press your cup and dispense)so they're back using it. They make great coffee for a lot less, easy to use, easy to clean, got top ratings in CR as well. Highly recommend it.

Keurig brought out a new model called the Keurig Vue last year which uses their new style K cups that don't fit in the previous models like yours. Most likely because when their patent expired everyone started making machines and K cups to fit them so no more big profits to gouge customers. I think it was a flop because they're disappearing from store shelves now and the suckers that bought them won't be able to find cups shortly.. I have a feeling the whole Keurig Tassimo thing will fizzle out in a couple of years anyways when people get tired of paying premium prices for a cup of coffee at home.

from what I've heard

people LOVE these things!

My friend has one and she knows several people who do; she's buying k-cups constantly and she says she could never go back to regular brewing of coffee. She keeps trying to talk me into buying one but I keep looking all over the internet at the price of k-cups and they are outrageous. She said everyone she knows likes them a lot. I usually drink four cups of coffee per day and sometimes more, so I couldn't imagine.

I have the same model as in the picture.  I've had it for almost 5 years and use it daily.  I've never had a problem with it and I have only de-scaled it once.  I use the k-cups as well as grinding my own beans and using the special brew basket.  Living alone, it is perfect for me.  I like the auto on/off function.  I set it to turn on a couple of minutes before I get up for work so that the water is hot and the brewer ready to go.  The brewer was about $160 when new (I got it as a gift) but now they can be purchased at Walmart for about $119.

Love mine

I got one for xmas and I love it! Its perfect for one cup when i'm on the go or its just me. If I'm entertaining or my partner and I want coffee we fire up the Commercial Bunn Pour-O-Matic. Again, not great if you want several cups, but perfect if you just want one!

Keurig

I fell for the new gadget idea of the Keurig myself about two years ago. I just HAD to have one, and finally shelled out the $150 (at that time) to get one at JC Penney. I took it home only to discover that one had missing pieces, the complementary coffee samples was gone, etc. I took it back and got another machine that was complete. Being an avid coffee drinker, I thought this would be the greatest thing since sliced bread......it wasn't. I liked the machine overall, the speed was nice, but after I exhausted my supply of K-Cups, I didn't use it a whole lot for about six months, I also have a Grind & Brew coffee maker with a thermal carafe that holds 10 cups, so I find I use it more often than a Keurig, but when my wife got pregnant, she stopped drinking coffee so back to the Keurig I turned. I used it without any problems for about five or six months, even managed to get a stockpile of K-Cups for free, then one day it simply died....no power to anything....couldn't get it working for anything.

To make a long story short, since I didn't want to throw away my giant stockpile of K-Cups, I started looking for a cheaper alternative and ended up buying a Mr. Coffee version that was half the price and does the same thing. My wife has now had our baby and is back to drinking coffee with me again, so the poor little Mr. Coffee is sitting idle again.....If it ever dies, I don't believe I'll ever have another one......just my thoughts on them :)

A couple of weeks ago I bought a new filter coffee machine after waiting to be disappointed by Argos who couldn't sell or get in one of their Cookworks coffee filter machines for £9-99! In the end had to pay £49-99 for a reduced price Panasonic black filter coffee machine. They've been out since late 2012. 'Have done a quick video at You Tube with much more involved product review elsewhere.

Really just wish the UK could get brands and products that do exactly what the Americans have - i.e a proper filter coffee machine that has temperature control, grinds the beans for you at the same time and makes the coffee. IMHO Panasonic's UK range is a bit over priced, over hyped and certainly not worth the money despite the cubist look. Still, it gives me warm to middling hot filter coffee the whole day through.

Three colour options are available: white, black and purple/violet but I refuse to pay £70 to £90 for the violet version no matter how cool it looks.

The link here shows in purple too - coincidence I guess!

My mom has that same Keurig. I don't drink coffee, so I can't comment on the coffee K cups, however the hot chocolate K cups are gross. My mom likes it quite a bit though.

I love my Keurig

I've had it now for a couple of years, and it's great.  Less than a minute to brew a cup of coffee or tea,  I still have a percolator for emergency, but haven't had to use it for a while.

I personally have never had the desire to own a Keurig. I've dramk coffee from one and it was nothing extraordinary to me. I think it is all hype and a trendy product.

I personally will stick with freshly ground Eight o' Clock or Gloria Jeans coffee perked in any of my electric percolators. My favorites being the Corning electromatic and the Cory Crown Jewel.

I love

my Keurig Platinum its at my Ocean front condo and I own a Cuisinart SS-700 Single Serve Keurig K-Cup Brewing System its at my home in the woods .

I have owned the Platinum for 3 years but 2 were replaced the newest is now 1.5 years old . The last two failed and Keurig replaced them for free no questions asked . I love their customer service and they stand behind their machines .

I bought the café cup reusable filter baskets two 4 packs and refill all eight and place in the refrigerator very easy and I get a fresh cup of coffee every time .

I have that model. Great for making stuff like hot chocolate or apple cider. Just remember to occasionaly run it without a k-cup to clean the innards out.

I checked out these pod coffee makers last year and rejected both the Keurig and the Tassimo systems.
Besides being larger than a simple Bunn Brewer my engineer's mind spotted the potential flaws of the pod cup mechanism that uses too many plastic parallel hinges and levers. Biggest pain and weak point is the cup piercing - the top has a sharp needle and the bottom has a weird sawtooth plastic puncturer. Puts too much strain on the pod cup mechanics.

Then I saw the cute KRUPS Nescafe Dolce Gusto quartet of simply styled machines. Uses one top needle and a simple lid that pierces the cup as it lowers on a single hinge with a satisfying 'thunk'. The cups have a seal on the bottom that pops when the pressure gets high enough.

As a bachelor I only need one cup at a time and I am impressed with the many flavors. Pod costs are comparable to the other systems and the model I chose, The Piccolo, holds enough water for two cups.

Plus it's cute as a small penguin and takes up little real estate on the counter. A year later I'm still using it at least 4 times a week.

I do wish all the pod systems made a larger cup of coffee but I usually add half & half to cool it down anyway.
I agree that they are a fad that will fade but when my Gusto Pods are no longer available, well, I got the machine on sale at Sears marked down to $50.

Following my surgery and recovery I lost my taste for Tim Horton's so this Piccolo is the ideal solution to a cap at home.

The Piccolo has been upgraded with new features as the Genio so its not dead yet...

Dave!! They look like penguines!

I drink about 4 cups of coffee a YEAR! I use a French press for 1 person, a Sunbeam 'percolator' for groups. I've seen those 'single cup' things, never used one. Our family never really got into 'drip machines'. I bought a De Longi (was expensive), but I got it dirt cheap. It's still in the box! It might come in handy if I need a quick gift. I also have a West Bend 'urn' for large groups, usually been used for after funeral dinners here at the hosue. (They were always held here). Of course, I have about 6 HOOVER coffeepots... big surprise there!!

For those who prefer filter coffee, my vote is for Technivorm. I lusted after one of these for years, but was in two minds about paying the £150+ asking price. In the end I managed to snag a H741 (their most basic domestic model) off eBay, brand new in the box, for £99. So keep an eye out, they do come up semi-regularly.

It looks like a relic from the 1960s, because it basically is. To me that's part of its charm. It's also made of metal, built by hand, and brews HOT coffee fast with no bitterness. Although the machine is spendy, parts are affordable and easily obtained if needed, so you can repair it yourself rather than tossing it out and buying a new one. Just like in the old days, when things cost more but were expected to last and usually did exactly that!

My son loves tea, hot choc., and flavored coffee so he's been bugging me to get one. I've tasted the coffee (neighbors have one and love it) and it's okay...but I'm stuck on my old, noisy senseo and the little layer of foam it puts on top when it brews, I make my own pods from inexpensive Folger's coffee and I still love the coffee it makes the best.

2 years ago I went to the Covered Bridge festival and a friend had a booth set up of various items still in a box for sale . One was a Keurig he had around 20 of them for sale.   It was the first day and I ask how much he wanted for one and he sold it to me for $20!

I love mine, I was throwing out more coffee than I was drinking but I fell for the green tea from Twinings. I use it 2 times a day, when I have the K cups that is!
