Hi Rex -

Gary did sum it up correctly - The Rhapsody is in the SU series of organs -

Most did not have the CD Recorder or the USB Drive - The last one made in the SU series was the Palladium SU630 - That model did have the CD recorder, and the Floppy Drive -

I am going to replace the Disc Drive with the USB conversion kit - Very easy to do, and very inexpensive - Not that I really need it - And that is only if I don't trade up -

I would only do an upgrade if it was an inexpensive upgrade (less then 2-3K) - As far as the sounds go, the ones that carry over from Model to Model are identical - The song set ups seem very similar if not identical as well -

When I was down at the Lowrey dealer two weeks ago, I played the death out of a sterling that he had taken on trade for a liberty - He also had a Rhapsody and a Stardust - To me, and a few of the people in the place, the Liberty DID NOT sound as good tone wise as the Rhapsody or the Stardust - Could be the cabinet construction, the difference in the wood from the USA made to the ons made over seas - Just did not sound as deep or as rich...

Lowrey USA Has a new YouTube channel dedicated to showing the different rhythms, and styles of the new Liberty - For the ones they they show that are on my Rhapsody, they are absolutely identical -

Are there more on the newer ones yes - Enough to matter - Not really - How many can you really need...

I just have a personal issue with liking to upgrade - That is why I usually get a new car every two or three years-

The other issue is that we decided we wanted to move the organ from the front foyer, to the upstairs living room - I figure the 350.00 to move it could go on a newer model. and I would just negotiate the moving as part of the package price!!! I can rationalize anything!!!

The replacing the floppy drive with the USB one makes a lot of sense-even if you should decide to trade-the USB upgrade may make the trade in organ a little more appealing.Like Who uses floppies anymore??Interesting how the Sterling,Rapsody,Stardust sound better than the new Liberty.Wonder if the Liberty being built in China or Malasya or whatever could be the diffrence? The wood used-cabinet design?Think on an organ as expensive as the Lowrey they should have separate amps and speakers. On cars----Its taking it in for oil changes where the salesman gets you-happened to me in Janhuary I was thinking of keeping my 2012 Toyota Highlander. While waiting a salesman asked if I wanted a new car-said no.He then says"Come take a look at this 2015 model sure you will like it!""Lets take it for a ride"Then it happened-change the oil and you change the car!Came home with the 2015.Guess its like those organs-you go to the shop to look around and do a test play--then you get hooked?Again the problem I have is the organ costs more than my car!Sadly can't play the organ to get me to work!Good luck with your decisions on the organs.Replace the floppy drive or end up with a new organ?

Hi Rex-

A million things could be causing the difference in the tone - On The SU series, the Tone is very deep and very mellow - Same on the Prestige I had played before getting mine…

The Sterling just seems to have a very shallow sound to it - Could be the wood used oversea's - Could be the
Base enclosure was changed - Different Speaker's - the list could go on and on -

If one did not play them back to back, and only played the Sterling, it may not be something anyone would even notice because the Sterling does sound nice, but just a totally totally different tone -

Only my opinion…
Dan

Hi Dan,

On the Prestige there are 8 different graphic equalizer settings that can be chosen and I'm sure that the Liberty has them as well, possibly even more choices. Could it be that the setting chosen on the Liberty when you heard it was a sharper setting?

Gary

Hi Gary - I did know about the Equalizer - I have 6 on the Rhapsody - Plus the changes that can be made through the screens…

I did 5-factory resets in a row - Then played with the equalizer and the panel settings - Still was not thrilled with the sound on the sterling…

And to be honest, the new EY400 Inspire sounds even worse to me - It has many more bells and whistles over even the Liberty, but the sound lacks any real punch… You can have volume, but still no punch if that makes any sense… I was not impressed - Especially for $30K…

Seems like in order to accurately judge the sounds of these instruments-the equalizers must be adjusted to the same settings on each instrument.Sadly at 30K will stick with other musical entertainments.I do enjoy listening to the songs you play!I would still bet for the best sound-you should play the organ thru a seperate amp and speaker systems.A fellow here at the transmitter loves to play his guitars thru his Crown amps and vintage JBL speaker systems!Would love to hear one of those organs played thru a similar system.Vintage JBL-NOT the newer made in China and Mexico stuff.
