<span data-offset-key="6itsm-0-0"><span data-text="true">My beloved old Griswald cast iron skillet with matching self-basting lid that I found many years ago in a thrift shop. Its inner surface was corroded, rusted and coated with a heavy layer of burned-on food and petrified oil. Nice work! Looks like it is ready for a few more decades of use!
Now how did you clean off the petrified cooking oil? I have the worst of luck trying to get this off of vintage appliances.... Sanding is not an option in my cases, but could have worked on this skillet.

I think that's what Brillo pads are for, although regular steel wool can work well also. Of course, once you scour it down, you have to season the pan again to make it ready to use.
