Got a new Floormate!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I love my floormate (Vax). It seems to be the most thorough and most hygienic way of cleaning hardflooring. Works very well. I just can't understand why no other manufacturer outside TTI have caught onto the idea.

Bissell produced a model called the Flip It, but it didn't have any rotating brushes.

I had the first Hoover Floormate we got in the UK in the late 90s/early 2000s and have owned most of the subseqent Vax versions with the cordless model being my favourite to date.

I really like my Floormate! It seems to me that the Floormates do a better job than than most steam mops! I bought mine at the Goodwill outlet in Kansas City for one dollar! It just needed to be cleaned up.

I jusy found another one.......

I wish I could look around my house and just "find" vacuum cleaners!!

Jealousy is a sin, but I do get slightly envious of your Hoovers John!

Don't be jealous, just enjoy.

Jealousy can actually be a terrible thing. Many suffer from it.

I'm very fortunate to have all these fine Hoover products.

Tom "A" and I share a lot of the same items. We're lucky... You never realize how much stuff you acquire over the years. Part of the fun is finding it all. Another part of the fun is sharing it all. Of course, my collection in rather "concentrated', being that it is only one brand. And, it'll remain that way.

 So, enjoy...

I love mine. I found it at a thrift store in like-new condition for $20. Someone had used it to vacuum a bare floor, never emptied the cup or changed the filter, and there it sat. I don't think they ever washed a floor with it. It was quite a find.

Floormate

I also have a H3000 model Floormate I fount at a thrift store for $20. I looks like it was used maybe once or twice. None of the stores around here have the cleaning solution for it. Is there something else I can use as a substitute? I know not to use Pine Sol from the warning stickers on it.

The first rule in collecting is

To collect what you like. If you like pink pencil erasers, then it's your collection, and it's ok.

Years ago my Aunt had a Floor-a-matic. It would shampoo as well as do hard floors, suck up the dirty water and polish. It was a cool machine. The floor mate reminds me of her machine.

floormates

I actually had a floormate h3000 several years ago. This was the one that could do dry vacuuming as well as scrubbing. A friend of mine got the floor mate deluxe, and I think Hoover actually took some steps backward with it. For one thing, it no longer has the dry vacuuming feature, and it just didn't seem to remove a lot of the water from the floor, it was almost as if the squeegee wasn't close enough to the floor. My current set up is, I actually bought one of those wands with a jet on it. I connect that to a faucet with a 40 foot water hose, and put a squeegee attachment on the end of the wand. I can connect the wand to one of my wet dry vacs, or one of my central vacuum units using a wet dry vac interceptor, works really well, the only thing you don't get with this set up is the spinning brushes.

I agree

With you on the floormate deluxe. I bought a manufacturer refurbished model for $50 on eBay. It leaves a lot of the water on the floor. You have to go over it a few times in the dry setting to get the water up.

floor mate motor

Unless they have changed it, apparently the floor mate only has a 3 amp motor. Of course, the amount of amps only indicates what the motor pulls, not cleaning power, but that's quite low. That's the advantage of using a wand and squeegee attachment, you can attach it to any vacuum that can vacuum water rather than being limited to one motor. Interestingly, canister extractors, whether for carpet or hard floors don't seem to be as common anymore, they're mostly all uprights now. That's why I got the parts and sort of built my own.
