Goodwills around me don’t usually have anything too noteworthy in the vacuum department, and I don’t have a ton of space for my machines. But this one was just way too nice to pass up. Anyone know when it was made or what it cost from new?

Eureka’s Rugulator made it’s debut for Christmas 1969, if I remember correctly. Detective Paul? Would you agree?

Congrats on nabbing such an awesome vintage Eureka—looks stunning with no noticeable scratches and the original bag jacket!

The Eureka Model 2070 debuted in 1969 in Ivory & Lagoon Blue Types A, B, & C (Canadian). In 1971 the color combo changed to Fawn Beige & Moss Green for Types D, E, & F. The model was discontinued circa 1975.

Look on the bottom for a protruding nub. Sometimes Eureka put digits around it to indicate the exact period of production.

Would be interesting to see if this Goodwill find has the Vibra Groomer brush roll which was introduced for Christmas 1971. If I remember correctly, the dates for the new features were: 1967 for Vanguard flat hood and box-top bag, 1969 for the Rugulator and 1971 for the Vibra Groomer brush roll.

Wow! That Vibra Groomer looks like it was never used!!!! Maybe the brush strips had been replaced recently?

I don’t think so...

The brushes are on metal inserts, which leads me to believe they are original. Even the belt looked original. I’m thinking this was a very low mileage machine. Just got done cleaning it, and tested it on my carpet. I’ll tell you what, that little 3.5 amp “blender motor” fluffs the carpet up more than any modern machine I’ve ever used. I look forward to using this machine more in the future.

Is it really a “blender motor”? Our deluxe 1973 Rugulator 2083 also had a 3.5 amp motor that had a very pleasant low groan sound. I always thought these deluxe metal Eurekas from the early 1970’s had robust pancake motors made by Ametek. I could be wrong….not really sure what heavy duty motor went into those Rugulator Vanguard Cordaway uprights.

Heavy duty motors went into the cannisters. They were the same motor as blenders.
I have a vanguard cordaway with a 3.5 blender motor.

@Thatwasherguy—No problem! Glad you found the actual date of manufacture by the nub! That was an inconsistent practice from around the mid-'60s until sometime in the '80s. You really got a GREAT deal for $11.99 and the low-mileage condition!

All—I thought the same motor was used for the 200-Series & 2000-Series, and that the blender motors were introduced in 1974 with the 1400-Series (launched in 1973) when the top vents were added to the hoods and the Edge Kleeners to the bottom plate. Further, I understood that the later pancake motors coincided with side hood vents.

Very nice find indeed! I've got a similar Eureka ESP upright from the early '80s, in dark green and white that I got from a Habitat Restore about three years ago for $15. It's a good performer as well. The fact that that design was around from the 1960s, on into the 2000s (I also have a 2012 model Sanitaire Professional upright that's basically the same machine) is a testament to the quality of its design. I believe the only reason they fell off in popularity is the manufacturers successfully hoodooed consumers into believing bagless was better.
