Goodwill $40 find

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I saw a Dyson (I think Multifloor 2) yesterday at my Goodwill for $49. I was interested as I'd like to try one, but a bit put off for the high price for a thrift store. But I see these sell for $400 new so maybe not such a bad deal.

I pay about $50 for used Dysons on eBay with shipping included so no it's not that bad of a deal. But then people have found Dysons all the time in the trash. I just got a Dyson City canister off shopgoodwill.com for $12. It's all relative.

The Dyson Ball Multi-Floor 2 just came out in 2017 so it's still relatively new.

A couple of years ago, I was at the back door of a thrift store, loading a love seat in the back of a van for a friend and there was a Dyson sitting there with a piece of paper taped to it that said "free". I have no idea what model it was. All I know is it was yellow. The most obvious problem was the plug was missing a prong. I probably had one I could put on it but I just left the thing sitting there. Dysons—and bagless plastivacs in general—just don't resonate with me.

We all have our preferences...

While I have much the same sentiment as human regarding bagless and plastic vacs not resonating with oneself..I also am not a fan of uprights additionally.....HOWEVER...I did pick up a free Dyson dc07 last summer. It worked! I cleaned it up and replaced the split hose. Works amazingly well, the suction is outstanding I must say. So while I didn’t want it and don’t like it because it makes my back hurt to use it...I will say it is about the best bagless upright I’ve ever used and hence, I gave it to my partner’s niece who rents a house from us...so that she would have an upgrade vacuum to care for the place with!

So while some of us may not care for a brand or style...we should respect those who do. Not everyone likes the same things.

Glad you are enjoying your Dyson find. They definitely do perform quite well.

I love how

On this forum you get find a really old conversation and start it over again! On other forums everyone just gets really annoyed at you

Old threads...

True. I frequent a car-related forum where the mods have set and aggressively enforce a policy that members are not to respond to threads more than six months old. When it happens, they flame/shame the person responsible and then lock the thread to prevent further responses. Instead, they want users to copy relevant information into a new thread and start from there. While I understand their thinking, I'm glad things are not that harsh here.

Yeah I don't get the thread locking stuff either. It doesn't matter how old it is, the stuff is still posted and viewable. I think they just want their site statistics to be bumped up, so they would rather have 40 posts a day of the same discussion rather than just letting someone comment on a old topic.

Vacuumland does have a comment limit though on each topic, but I'm not sure what that number is set at, I think it's 100.

Wait.. HooverCelebrity is from Germany and his name is Marc. Weird.. Are old usernames recycled? So if I leave vacuumland can someone else claim my username and my history? I just find that odd. Unless it was a hack.

I answered my own question.

Apparently anyone who signs up for vacuumland can reuse someone else’s old user name. If the person leaves the site and the username is available.

In other words if I left the site someone could sign up as my username kloveland and have my history in the archives attached with the username kloveland. Although I don’t know who would want to reuse my username.

I tried this theory with the username KenKart who left awhile back and the site said it was available. To me this is a flaw of vacuumland. I don't want my posting history associated with a new person if I decided to leave vacuumland.

- Just thought I would point this out.
