Golden J Resto Done!!!

Well, a Saturday afternoon/evening well spent. Got the resto of the Golden J done that I started about 2 months ago... This thing was absolutely filthy when I got it and smelled horrible! But for a dollar, hey, it was worth it! New paint job, new vacuum lines, full cleaning and touchups, looking not too shabby...

Derek, that is one beautiful machine.  You did a great job painting it.  All of your hard work sure shows!!   I have one question.  In the picture with the power nozzle it looks like the nozzle unit plugs into the front of the plastic wand.  That is really different, I've only seen them plugged in, in the back.

WOW,,beautiful job! Looks really sharp,,like it jumped right out of 1975!

This is the EXACT machine my Grandmother bought in April or May of 1976. Only difference i can tell is that the PN plug on the PN was skinnier, but that is the exact machine, hose and PN,,with the 50th Jubilee stickers and all.

Jeesh, that machine brings back fond memories,,i was just a kid then, and dreamed of owning this machine.
Then when my Grandma actually bought one,unbenounced to me, didnt know she was thinking of buying one,,,i couldnt WAIT to get to Grandma's that summer to see and use the new Electrolux! Was one of the biggest thrills of my childhood! ( vacuum crazy kid)
My Grandparents were not rich, and a machine of this type was considered a definate luxury to them. I want to say it was around 450.00 new.
She did not buy the rug shampooer with it.
This lux was one of her prized posessions,,she was proud of that Electrolux.

Yes, when we were cleaning out her house after she passed,,i took the Lux.
Still have it,,always will.

Great job Derek! You really did a fine job on that Lux. It's great bringing a "forgotten" machine back to restored beauty and serviceability. Very rewarding.


I also want to compliment you on your choice of paint products. Fanta makes a good quality product with a superior finish. Long lasting and quite durable.

Derek, I am SOOO jealous of you right now!!

That is one BEAUTIFUL Lux Super J you have there!! You did a wonderful job on bringing the old girl back to life. Now, don't take this the wrong way....only thing you forgot to do, is take some paint & repaint the Electrolux logo on the bumpers, but that's a minor thing.

If you could do me a favor, & post this on my group, please....I know Logan Hall & Jim Kalin will be drooling when they see it!

I have a Super J I picked up at a sewing and vac shop just north of Milwaukee.


It's in great shape as well.


Have to say it's one of the first machines I grab whenever there is a need to do some serious cleaning.

Thanks for all the kind compliments! I am especially proud of this one, as it was in such rank condition when found. It has been noticed that the "electrolux" wording on the bumper could be painted. I would like to do that, however, does anyone have a close up picture of the word color, or, know what color it originally was? I cannot seem to find a picture of it online. Thanks!

Hey Mr. Vacumaniac .... fellow Wisconsinite.


I need a little advice.


I have a PN-2 like the one you have with your Super J.


How do you release the chrome plate over the brush roll.


There is a small slot that somehow has a tab that needs to be released .... just don't get it.


I expect that step is key to taking the entire unit apart.
