I need some information on a galaxy canister vacuum. It looks kinda like a hoover portable. But with a "handle" that comes up I don't have the model number at the moment.I will follow up with it if necessary. I would appreciate anything you could tell me about it. It was my husbands parents vacuum from some time ago.

All that I know about Galaxy ...

... is that it might have been a "house brand" of Sears and K-Mart. Reason I say this is because I have seen uprights and canisters with this name on them in both Sears and K-Mart stores here in town: they were positioned as "entry level" or "value priced" machines.

Sorry to say that this is all the info I've got ... hope it helps somewhat.

I am just guessing but it looks to me to be from about the 60's? I will take a photo and get the model number. I know the "upper" handle is gone/broken. I just spotted it under a shelf keeping company with a lewet, and a swivel top.

"Sears Kenmore Galaxy"

Hello!

I know what you are refering to, this model was a deluxe vacuum sears sold in 1958 from their line of "Kenmore Skyline Cleaners" My Grandmother had one and I was totally fasinated with it because it was all compact and had a CORDWINDER!
The color of it is called "Exotic Goddess Gold" Does this describe what you have?

Are you looking to keep it? If not I could find a good home for it!

Let me know!

The term Galaxy was also used by Royal once in the early 1970s, but spelled "Galaxie." The upright in question is the model 990 Galaxie Prestige, which got Royal in trouble with Scott & Fetzer (Kirby's parent company), since it had a removable nozzle similar to the Kirby.

Tania...

Isn't that Galaxie canister very similar to the Satellite Fred Nelson has, or the Horizon i have???? I have a good collection of Sears catalogues, If you give me an idea of the year, I will look it up, or try to!

Thanks,

Sorry I haven't responded, I had some things come up unexpectedly, I will take the pictures tomorrow and post them, I did check and it is a sears product. I will let you know what I find out then.

Go easy on me!

I literaly just drug it out from under a shelf in my boneyard. it is in the same condition as I recieved it. There is no upper handle to it and I don't think it has a cordwinder, if it does it doesn't work. I would have to look around for the hose which I may or may not have. I am only interested in the history of the unit because it was my husbands parents machine. I doubt he will want to get rid of it.
I will clean it up and listen to it and check it over more thoroughly.

That Galaxie Kenmore vacuum looks just like the one my Stepmom had when I was a child. That would be another vacuum I would be looking for-a Kenmore "wheelbarrow" vacuum. The handle on hers broke-My Dad made a new one from an old military surplus riflestock.
