I have two vintage Kirby vacuums FOR FREE to whomever can come to Raleigh, NC to get them: a Kirby Classic III (runs, but could really use a tuneup) and a Kirby Heritage II Legend (taken apart by mom in a quest to fix it herself - I have all the pieces though!).

Once I had thought I'd have the time to fix/tune them up, since I hate just throwing things away that are so sturdy and are meant to be repaired. But I've got so many projects waiting I can't realistically take on any more. I considered taking them to a repair shop, but realized I'd be paying about the same amount of money as just getting a new vacuum.

When I encountered this forum (while searching for info on fixing/tuning them up) I was delighted to find folks who restore these things (for fun!) that are clearly built to last a very long time. So I thought one of you might be interested in taking these off my hands and making them work well again (and maybe even making them look nice too!).

Pictures attached.

How does one do this? I've never shipped anything quite this ungainly before. Just get a giant box and a whole lot of newspaper? Do they still do COD shipping?

I'm very happy to find a loving home. :-)

If you break the vac down as much as possible, it will be much easier to ship. Lots of sturdy packing material is a must of course. I shipped a Kirby Classic III once. Sometimes stirofoam works well for packing. Lightweight but firm. Heavy brown paper is pretty good too.
