Since the metal wands and hose end all have metal running right to the end of the rubber grips the tools fit fine. The rubber collar simply has an inner molded protrusion that depresses the tool's button latch when pressed. But you know this.
If the rubber cuff or ferrule is liquefying or dessicated there's really nothing to be done but remove and toss it. I find orphaned non-electric FQ hoses all the time. I'm sure any FQ dealer will have spare cuffs and hoses lying around for free if ya ask nice enough. Also, the FQ hose literally screws into the cuff barrels at both ends, like Rainbow, Kirby. Westinghouse or Sunbeam so really all you need to find is a hose handle.
