That Kenmo' is the exact....
machine that my grandmother had.
She moved with my grandfather to a VERY large house on Lake Sommerset, Sommerset Mich, in March of 1978. Just recently I asked her about the square footage of the place and she told me after the added the family room it totaled a grand 1758 square feet on the main floor and another 900 upstairs. She at the time had a Hoover Convertible 1060 like the one that has been featured in another post.
She purchased ithis machine after realizing that her upright was NO match for the thru house gold green and beige shag that was EVRYWHERE thru that house. Add some nappy leopard print carpet in the Kitchen, and various colors in the bedrooms to complete her theme's..she found herself going to the local Sears store in Jackson Michigan and purchased this very canister cleaner with PowerMate, for the grand total of 209.88 May 3rd 1979. She used that machine until she supplanted it with a Singer Based commercial Kenmore sometime around 1987. I was NEVER allowed to play with the machine.
A funny story ensued with that machine. I KNEW that I was NOT allowed to play with her vacuum cleaner, and she was the only one in my family who could tell if I moved OR played with their vacuum or not. Or at least led me to believe that they knew.
One weekend when I was there from what I was told the summer of 1981 when I was four I was helping my grandma with dinner..or well I was sitting on a stool watching her. I heard the vacuum come on from far away. Sliding down off the stool I raced down the hallway towards the noise. I ran thru the whole house looking for it...finally after looking I noticed that it was coming from my grandpa's workshop.
I opened the huge metal door that seperated the grage from the workshop and there was my granpa using HER vacuum to clen up sawdust and sutff from the floor. Before my granpa could say a word I raced bnack toward the kitchen where gram was still preparing food..and as I get to her all out of breath I gasp
"Goddamn it grandma...grampa is using your NEW vacuum out in the shop"
My whole family still tells that story to this day. It still makes my grandma laugh so hard she cries a little.
Ahhh the memories of 1981..
Chad
Suddenly I heard the vacuum far away turn on.
