Finalized D80 fill tube/replaceable bag setup...

I’ve been working on this for a while, and it’s finally complete. I’ve installed a fill tube with special fittings to create a good seal inside the emtor, and today I picked up from the seamstress the cloth bag with a zipper installed so I can easily access and replace the bag. Did my test with an older G3 bag, will install something much better once i fill it up a bit. Here’s some pics!

It’s taken me quite a while to find the right fittings that will fit both the emtor opening and fill tube (with good seal). Once I had that figured out, I had the bag modified. A note to the more hardcore D80 folks... I have a fully original NOS D80 bag, and my fill tube can be removed to restore the machine to original.

I just wanted to be able to use the thing as a daily driver and not have to do a F&G conversion...I hate how the emtor is removed for this, as well as not having a correct cloth bag. I’ve tried a LOT of tricks and many worked well, but being able to use HEPA bags and replace them as easily as bagged machines was something I really wanted to happen. Never have to worry about a filthy shake out bag, get to keep the machine fully assembled, i love it!

Not bad on the setup. I'd say it's f@g meets royal upright adaptor. The setup I made is harder to make. Yours seems good too. My setup I use the emptor. It pics up the heavy items and stay in emtor. I believe emtor gives more pressure not sending all the air through the tube. I could be wrong since a Kirby with no bag has least amount or restriction. If I were to guess more air flow the better capping off causes some resistance. I must say this is a cheap effective solution. The zippers and sewing is not much. The bags are expensive. I commend you on a very cost effective solution. There is always more than one way to skin a cat no pun intended.

Give me a couple of days and I’ll send you a schematic of what I did. I’m really happy with how it all came out. I don’t have any tools to precisely measure things, but general tests with throwing dust under area rugs, etc, I see zero difference in performance. Being the weirdo in the hardware store examining o-rings and gaskets seemed to have paid off, lol.

I would not use the "G3 bags " they let to much dust out .
Try the HEPA or the" MICRON MAGIC "

I just installed a modern style replacement bag. I used the G3 bag as a test just to see how easily it’s installed/removed, etc etc etc.

It works so much better with the newest style Micron Magic bags.

I know how silly it sounds, but I’ve wanted for so long to be able to use my shake out bag machines with replaceable bags - AND avoid the F&G conversion... I just don’t like how that conversion looks, I like having the emtor in place. I also wanted to avoid doing anything to the machine that couldn’t be reversed...or couldn’t be reversed without damage... this setup creates a perfectly tight seal, and allows me to use the vacuum just like my other bagged vacs, it’s also entirely removable. A side note: I have original, unused shake out bags on the side if I feel like being entirely original. The only iffy modification is having the zipper installed, but that’s why I have extra shake-outs...
