Filter Queen Model 33 - my very first!

It pays to have friends in strange places! A buddy gave me this Filter Queen 33. So it's missing the hatrack, big deal -- I don't like those things anyway. It doesn't have a PN port, but I have the other attachments also. And, as you probably know, it's two speed -- and on the lower speed the thing is whisper-quiet.

I really, Really, REALLY like this machine!

Ooh yes, the 33 in Tuna Pank.

Well, it's not really Salmon. A soothing shade that makes the 33 look so light on it's feet - tho it weighs more because of the cordwinder base.

Seems very very odd to me but I have yet to see one of these elephantine ballerina beasts with both a two-speed switch AND a PN port. Mine even came with the electric hose but no place to plug it in ???

Oh well, this whole ensemble set me back $15, says the price sticker on the suitcase full of nifty pank accessories.

Im sorry the kitty wasn't as amused as you lol. But I am. I have yet to have the honor of having or using a Filter Queen,they don't seem common around here. Anyway it looks like an excellent vacuum Congrats!!

for getting the best of all vacs. A FQ will OUTCLEAN the other brands' vacs & filters better than HEPA & ULPA (when using the MEDI-PURE filter) You'll never breathe any dust in your home with a Filter Queen!

Mine is remarkably clean inside - a testament to FQ's filtration superiority - and I decided to take it out for a spin. It ran for about 3 minutes on both speeds then began to hiccup and stopped.

So, get out the diagnostic tools...

Long story short, after testing out all circuit paths I finally made my way in to the motor. Spinning the armature I could hear no tell-tale brush friction...

Sure enough, both brushes worn to the stubs. Must have been making its final contact through the magic of carbon dust aether.

I could raid another FQ for brushes but I'll get new ones from Bill Ellison.

I am carefully considering and want to add a PN socket to this fine Filter Queen 33. Since the socket hole is full of riveted-in two speed switch, if Bill has a suitable socket I'll mill out a new hole for it beside the switch. It would have to locate there on the rim because the hose's 8" pigtail is not long enough to reach all the way up to a vent - where I could easily install a socket - and still allow the hose to rotate. I'd rather not run a PN pigtail through one of the motor vents. The chances of finding a salmon pink pigtail is extremely unlikely...

Now my 33 is everything she could and should be...

Really only two choices for the PN socket which is a genuine FQ rim radius back mount; opted for the right side so as not to obscure the tub graphics.

These older all-metal Filter Queens are so well muffled with heavy felt that they are truly quiet like nothing else I've heard other than a Canadian Electrolux 80 series.

High speed on this one gives 83"
A shame about those rusty bits but the tool ring covers them.

I'll say it is! At a reading of 49" it's no 'louder' than a tower fan on low and it's easy to imagine running one of these in the sick room with mentholated medicated spirits, purifying the air and allowing for restful sleep.

The hose had a slight gasket leak but with a beefed up rubber sealing ring the loss of 5" on either speed was eliminated.
