Filter Queen advice

Hi guys

I've had my Filter Queen 70th anniversary for some time now, it is my main vacuum and I love it to bits. Unfortunately, I think the motors dying on me, it's started producing a burning smell. It recently had some new carbons and the armature was cleaned up because I found the armature was sparking quite badly. This cured the problem for a little while but its started doing it again today. It's well maintained and the filters are replaced regularly including the medi-pad. The powerhead is getting a little bit tired and noisy now too.

I'm toying with the idea of investing in a brand new filter queen, since its a cleaner i know and love using and know it would last me a long time. My current filter queen is 15 years old which is pretty good going.

My question is this, does the latest model really offer anything particularly useful or exciting that would justify it or should I just get a new motor for my old one?

It is a pretty little machine, they're relatively unusual here in the UK too. hmmm tough decision! heres a video of her in action when she wasn't misbehaving

I would just replace the motor. Maybe someone can chime in on what differences a newer version would have, maybe a better power nozzle? I would think the main unit would be pretty much the same though.

You have the best designed filter queen already. The new models have very cheapened motors and power nozzles. The new high speed motors are poor quality and burn up within a few years typically, and the new style power head is such a train wreck it never should have left the drawling board, constant electrical problems with the direct connect wand and hose. I feel a new motor for your current model would be a much better investment. Sorry for my strong opinion, I worked for a Filter Queen distributor for three years. Before that I loved my Filter Queens, but after seeing all those new machines come back over and over with the same issues I was left with a nasty bitter taste.

I would also suggest replacing the motor in your FQ vacuum-at how good a shape its in-the new motor makes sense.

I have a Filter Queen 360

I bought it Brand New in box off of Ebay from Canada. It was the model with the recall, so I did not have a warranty. I too did not like the new wand and power nozzle set up. I also had to have a new motor. I went to my local Filter Queen office and they put a new motor in mine and actually got it registered to me. However I did not get a warranty on it other than the new motor I had put in it, but at least Filter Queen knows it's registered to me. Now to my next point. When the recall came, I called Filter Queen and asked if I could go back to the old style hose and power nozzle because I liked it better. They said yes and sold me directly the tools, wand, and power nozzle, since the dealer I went to had passed away. Expensive lesson learned. I think twice before buying NIB off of Ebay.


 


I do know my machine truly was new in box as my Filter Queen dealer checked the Serial Number and it was not registered to an individual, but that is all I know.

The motor for that unit

is no longer available from Filter Queen. Its replacement is the POS single stage motor used in the 360's. If your hose/wand/power nozzle are in good shape, I would recommend just replacing the motor unit with a 75th or another Limited (you only need the chrome dome w/motor). You can find a used one on ebay for under $100, or get a good refurbished one for around 150.00. The Limited motors ran quieter than the single stage 360 motors too. Having to replace a motor on a 15 year old machine isn't too bad if it was used heavily.

well, I think the general consensus on this one is pretty much the same all round. If the quality has taken a turn for the worst then its no good to me. Think i'll be sticking with my old one in that case! thanks

I have the same filter Queen model & I am also getting that burning smell & the top lid gets very hot also, did the new motor fix your problem
