Favorite Vacuum for attachment use

Hey everyone! I was a member years ago, but I forgot my login info. I am back! Anyway, thought my first post under my new username would be about attachments. What’s your favorite relatively recent machine/machines attachments for attachment use? Most new vacuums really seem to lack in that area- either short bristles on a dusting brush, or some bogus combo tool that’s relatively useless. I think for me, it was the old Hoover Elite tools from the 90s. The dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice tools were relatively well designed, and they were pretty universal. Growing up, my mom had a Hoover Power Drive, and we used to to the attachments from that on an old Eureka Mighty Mite. But, that’s just me. Curious to see what everyone’s thoughts are! Take care.

Electrolux or Tristar or Filter Queen for me modern mid 90s Kenmore .

Ooh yes, I agree. Love Tri-Stars, and especially Kenmores!

Hmm...

I'd probably have to choose a Numatic. Their hoses are long but have good flexbility, the included tools are of good quality, the stub tube can make confined spaces a little easier to clean. And while not related it's quiet and it's cute.

I have to say I’m very pleased with my Miele C3 canister for attachment use. Along with the three deluxe attachments stored on-board “under the hood”, I’ve got a wide range of other Miele attachments that are very useful: long flexible crevice tool, large universal dusting brush, mini turbo nozzle. The great thing is that those last two attachments can be connected directly to the hose (with the hose handle removed) which is very handy in certain cleaning situations like cleaning the car or kitchen drawers. My C3 also came with a fantastic SpotLight handle which has an LED flashlight built right in! It’s amazing how useful this light is when cleaning in dark situations like behind furniture or the shelves in a pantry.

Just wish Miele would create a nice Tool Caddy carrier to hold all these extra accessories...

I manage to somehow fit my Dyson long dusting brush on almost all my machines, just makes getting everything wiped clean a lot easier, it was Not Cheap!

I don't care for any Hoover attachments. Kirby tools are decent and work well. The best, is the new Aerus Electrolux "Classic" because the tools are 'classic' Electrolux. Rainbow and Filter Queen and Tri-Star have always also had good attachments.

First of all, welcome back.

Now that the niceties are out of the way, I must respectfully take issue with the characterization of combo tools as either "bogus" or "useless" because my favorite machines for attachment use are my Electrolux canisters and those two adjectives in no way characterize my experience with either their signature combo upholstery/dusting brush or what I like to call the "flippy floor tool". Both are of excellent quality and offer superior performance for their designated tasks. I also prefer the motor-driven handheld SideKick power nozzle to just about any of its air-powered counterparts, including those made by my other favorite brand, Kirby*. Simplicity, ease of use and solid performance make the Electrolux tool system a winner in my book.

All that said, none of my Electrolux canisters are exactly recent. The newest, a Diplomat LX, dates from sometime in the '90s and the oldest ones (a pair of 1205's) have passed the half-century mark but any of them will match or exceed the performance of any plasticrap vac on the market today and will still be running strong long after those newer ones have blown their circuit boards and are taking up space in landfills.

*While I do like the quality and performance of Kirby's accessory tools, and as much as I find their sheer variety intriguing, the complicated process of converting the machine from upright floor mode to tool mode makes it less appealing for those uses.

Either a central vacuum or my Sebo C3. I prefer the Sebo handle to the one Miele uses, it's smaller and feels more comfortable to me. It's also nice to have suction control on the handle, my Miele C2 only has the switch for the power nozzle on the handle. The Sebo also has decent attachments, the upholstery tool is effective and the dusting brush shaped like a narrow triangle which is surprisingly helpful when dusting shelves with knick knacks on them. Meanwhile Miele uses that little round dusting brush, which works OK but I've never been a huge fan of.

Of course a central vacuum would be ideal for above the floor cleaning, and there are so many universal fit attachments that they can use. My only issue would be the lack of suction control but that isn't too big of an issue.

I like the attachments that come with Kirby machines, and I like the hose handle set up where the bend handle part detaches from the hose, but I think they're too loud and inconvenient to use. Especially since they kick into a higher speed mode with the hose attached, which makes them even louder.
