Norm,

You are 100% correct, the early models, the bare floor tool was cumbersome at best. Some of them even had interchanging heads for the floor tool, polisher...I think I have a couple of those downstairs.

But the last design was great.

My all time favorite is the older Compact floor tools. That seems to be the one that I reach for most often. Have to agree too with Morgan about the AirTec tools. I got a set of them about 3 years ago and love them. When you use the felt pad on the rug tool it does a fantastic job.

Since my collection totally consists of Electrolux, I can't speak about other brands of floor tool, but I find that the Lux floor tools (either the American combo tool or the older Canadian tool) do a decent job. I recently performed a "brush-ectomy" on one of my older extra floor tools by cutting air channels in the bristles, and like the results (i.e. a cleaner floor).

Bare floor tools

I like the Lux combo tool for ceramic tile, vinyl tile, and sheet vinyl/linoleum. For wood plank, parquet, and laminate I have an old Filtex rug tool with the felt pad. Used on high suction canister it actually will polish somewhat as it removes the dust.

Favorite Floor tools

My favorite one is the Parquet bare floor tool for my Kirby. But It is the same design as the bare floor tool on my new Hoover constellation, but a little different then the one on my Miele Red star... But they do work quite well! Dan

combo

Is there a good all purpose tool out there that will go from carpets to bare floors without changing anything? Seems that I remember the GE tool would do that.

I also really like the Lux flip over tool, but mine has lots of "drag" on area rugs. Anyone else had this problem?

Tim
