Hey everyone. I was just wondering what your favorite bare floor tool was. Of the ones I have (classic Elux flip tool, Hoover Celebrity tool (not bad), Kenmore Iridium tool, Tristar tool (though not a machine to go with it), Kirby G5 tool, Kirby Heritage 2 tool, and Dyson Low Reach tool, Filter Queen tool, Rainbow SE tool, Hoover Constellation tool), the Dyson is my favorite.
Last night around 4 AM, I stumbled groggily out to the kitchen in the dark to fumble for a glass of water. I accidentally knocked a glass over. Knowing I was too tired to clean it up then, I decided to clean it up after I woke properly. I closed the cat up in the bedroom with me so he didn't accidentally walk on broken glass (great song BTW lol).
Of course I swept up the big chunks. Then I decided to use a bagless vacuum so that I could get rid of the glass immediately. I didn't want to risk abrading the fan of nice vacuum (Kirby), or the hose of an vintage machine. I had two to chose from... Dyson DC14 or Kenmore Iridium. Not wanting to risk the glass scratching the Dyson dirt bin (just detailed and waxed it yesterday!), I opted for the LG made Kenmore. The dirt doesn't seem to swirl around like it would in a bagless upright with a round canister so there was less risk of scratching the bin. Plus, the dirt bin isn't really visible so you can't see the junk anyway so if it got scratched no big deal. I don't love the Iridium (got it from my ex, strike 1, the handle detent is very weak so when connected to the power nozzle, the hose readily submits to gravity, strike 2, the tools are awful, strike 3, the switch is in a place where it is accidentally activated, strike 4, and the whole thing is cumbersome and awkward, strike 5. Not to mention the dirt bin is a disaster to empty). It does have some redeeming qualities like quick release power nozzle, telescopic handle, and very powerful.
So, I had to use my favorite bare floor tool, the Dyson one. I think it's the best bare floor tool ever invented. It hugs the floor so it doesn't tip to one side or the other. It doesn't push the dirt out of the way before it gets to it. It just glides across the floor. And, switching from bristles extended to bristles retracted is a snap. The only possible bad thing is that the bristles are pretty firm so they may scratch a delicate floor. I NEVER use the tool with the Dyson, because I'm tall and I almost have to bend over to do that... the wand on the Dyson is WAY too short which sucks. They should make an extension pipe just for the bare floor tool and tall people! But, that tool combined with the long handle of the Kenmore was a dream to use. I could have vacuumed acres of floor very pleasantly with that combo! Of course I finished by washing the floor with the Hoover Steam Vac just to be sure EVERYTHING was picked up.
So, whats your favorite bare floor tool and why. Are you a boars hair or horse hair only purist? Do you like to mix and match the attachments, or do yo only use them on the machine they came with?
