Hi everyone, I've been working on redesigning the way photos are uploaded and viewed on the automaticwasher.org and Vacuumland.

Please note this test is only view-able and valid from in this one test thread. Once I get everything working I will turn it on for every thread.

My goals for this project are the following:

#1 Allow users to upload more than one photo at a time.

#2 When a user has uploaded more than one picture into a single post, only show one picture at a time and let users scroll through the pictures one at a time by clicking on the red arrows or clicking on the picture itself. This will reduce load times for threads with lots of pictures.

#3 Have pictures displayed in a special photo viewer that will shrink the picture in the post so you can see the entire picture all at once without having to scroll down. I've added a See Full Size link (in the gray bar above the picture viewer) if you want to see the picture at it's full size. When you click full size for now you will only see that picture, but eventually in future updates I want to make it so you can scroll through the pictures in full size mode as well.

Once I get this base system up and running I'll work on future enhancements such as scrolling through the pictures full size and possibly a captioning system.

Hold please, more coming in about 60 seconds...

OK below is the new picture viewer. Please scroll through the pictures, you can click on the red arrows to scroll through them or click on the right side of each picture to go forward.

Also please see the new photo uploader box at the bottom. I need help testing this so if you guys wouldn't mind please try uploading some photos in this thread (see new Photo posting box below). Let me know what you think and if/when you find any bugs please report them here. So upload some fun pictures for me (please nothing controversial).

Also let me know what browser or phone (if you are on mobile) you are using or phone, etc.

Thanks everyone![this post was last edited: 5/20/2014-15:32]

I saw this when you first tried it out on Automatic Washer. This is such a wonderful improvement; thanks! I'm using Google Chrome 34 on Mac OS 10.9.3, and it seems to be working perfectly. Safari 7.0.4 renders it exactly the same. Both .jpg and . gif are uploading and previewing without any issues.

That's a terrific enhancement, Robert. As you know, I had asked you a long time ago about the idea of multiple photos in one posting without having to insert them manually with html coding. You didn't want to implement it at the time because of bandwidth overage concerns and possible abuse by evildoers. You came up with a brilliant solution!

Robert, would you look closely at Photo No. 5 that I uploaded before. The vacuumland program automatically resizes photos, usually to their detriment -- and this is "case in point." The original photo is not very large in either byte size or resolution. So when it gets sized down even a little, the clarity is impacted.

Maybe you could change the feature to only downsize really huge photos? Or perhaps put a reasonable limit on file size (keeping in mind most people have cable/dsl now and you don't have to worry about a 200k file crashing their rig!)

Furthermore, when I click "See Full Size," even there the photo is showing as having been sized down and not "Full Size."

I'm going to email you the original photo so you can see for yourself.

Hi Charles, thank you, you are correect! Yes for now I was sizing them down to 900px during the initial run, the old way was 1000px, so it's not much different. But I'm definitely thinking of making them larger for upgraded users. I'm trying to decide to best way differentiate the feature between regular members and upgraded users. I also just might do full size just in Vintage and Contemporary, but I will have to experiment. I need to see how much pressure this puts on the system and then I will expand where I can. I also have to be careful of disk space as there are limits unfortunately. For sure more enhancements and experimenting will be coming.

If you guys don't mind, who ever can, please try load pictures as well. I need to know who it works for and who it doesn't. I want to be sure it works for as many as possible. Thanks again all.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say --

Firefox 29.0 Beta (I am a beta tester on their update channel).

4-year-old Mac Pro running OS 10.6.8

Processor: 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem”

8GB RAM (4x2GB)

Hi Joe, I think figured out what was causing the issue on Firefox for the Mac for some users. I believed I fixed it, can you try to post your pictures again with preview? Let me know how it goes. Thanks again!
