Can someone tell me the approximate production years of Eureka when they had the blue and green trim, and also when they stopped using the top conversion port for attachments and went to the multi-level height adjustment?

I'd like to learn and more too

While I've seen lots of vintage Hoover uprights, I know next to nothing about vintage Eureka uprights. I'm curious about how the tools were attached. Did they have an arrangement to similar to Hoover's? Did it change or evolve over the years? Does any one have any pictures showing the tool connection?

someone here mentioned having lots of Eureka lit a while back. considering that Eureka in the 70s rivaled Hoover for quality and performance, its amazing more isnt said about them. the Eureka folks need to stand up! (i will guesstimate that the Eureka top tool conversion was discontinued around 1969, when the Rugulator was introduced(?).)

Yes, I would agree from my litature and what I know first hand. Eureka upright attachments were attached in front of the headlight during the late 40's early 50's up until the
Dial a nap or the rugulator front wheel adjust ment. All of
those machine had good ball bearing motors in them before they
started the 1400 series for promotions, price point in the 70's. The upright Eureka's prior to the brown and tan flat
hood were all built in a horizontal design like a Kirby or
Hoover jr. There were ok machines. Then came the vertical
motor design like the Hoovers upright. With the dial a nap
adjustment the attachments clipped on the bottom over the
brush roller. Not very satisfactory, especially with the
1400 series sleeve bearing motor.
I will get out some of my litature and see if I can tell you anything more specific. Wish I could scan the pictures, as they would be worth a 1,000 words.

Eureka

Green production was in the late 50's into the early 60's then
they all came out blue from the early 60's until the early/mid
70's. Then they started varring colors according to the
features on a basic machine. Of course they branded for Montgomery Wards, JCPenny, Firestone, many different private brands.

How did the top tool conversion work?

I found this auction for a vintage Eureka upright (see link). I assume the silver plate above the brush roller is where the attachments were connected. How did this work. How was the suction diverted from the nozzle to the hose?

Thanks Norm! I have no resources for model years of Eureka. I wish I had a list like the one Jeff Parker has for the convertibles, I refer to it all the time. I just got a blue Eureka upright, model 242a I think, chrome hood, headlight, 2-speed switch in the base, one owner, sweet machine. It still has the attachment port in front of the headlight. The older lady that owned had it serviced regularly, and just gave it to me because she's going into a retirement center where her cleaning is done for her. The sad thing is that the bag is a replacement bag and I'd like to find a blue bag for it.

Attachment conversion

Yes, the tan and brown Eureka in the ebay adv. is the late 40's early 50's. When you pulled out the emblem plug and
plugged in the hose. You then had a plastic plate that covered
the brush roller on the the bottom. That sealed the suction and directed it thru the hose. Sorry I forgot to explain that
aspect of the conversion. I will get into my sample case and
see what I can come with on models and time in more detail.
