Eureka Upright 625D

Does anyone have any pictures of this machine? This followed me home from a curbside. (I'm going to have to start driving with my eyes closed....) This has to be pre-1980 as the carpet height selector is labeled with "shag."

The bag is cool and in excellent condition. However, the rubber bumber and handle, which is plastic - WRONG - for some reason must have been replaced along the way. I'm 99.9% it was metal originally.

I curious as to what bumper came with it and if I can find another, but I need a picture if at all available.

Thanks in advance for any clues to this great mystery!

You are correct for the handle,it's supposed to be metal,I have a 626 which looks just like this but brandywine,which has a metal handle.Hope this helps!!

hey thought id let you know....

this is a 1979 model....the bag pattern and color is called "wild moss" and also appeared on the continental series in 1978....im also going to post pics of a Eureka advertisement showing those particular machines for reference..

Wild moss IS pretty wild. And, Brandywine is actully my FAVORITE color Eureka had. Maybe someday. My Aunt had one, but it was lost on the way to Texas. It was either my Grandmother or the Eureka.

Funny thing is, to this day, my aunt still says she left the wrong thing behind. She should have left my Grandmother instead of the vacuum behind. Ahhhhh...Family. =0)

625D Eureka- Kmart

Yup, it's a K mart model, with the org. Plastic handle ! It is a 1979-1980 era. I was a Eureka Rep. in Central Ohio, Columbus. Hired on Feb. 1979. Saw the First Self propelled
Blue ESP introduced at the National Convention that Feb.
I had never seen a Plastic handle until I went into a K Mart
to count stock and ask for a reorder for the first time. Could not believe it. Heard other Reps. talking about the "new K Mart" special coming to the stores with a "plastic" handle. Titled me, as seeing the quality of the Burgandy ESP's and then the intro of the ESP self propelled. Just could not understand why they went there. It was what K mart wanted to hit the price point. It was another year before we saw them start showing up on the "Promo" models for Federated Dept. Stores.
The one you have is an original. You got a beautify if it runs as well as it looks !!

My 626 has an original metal handle...

Why does my 626 have a metal handle?Its also a K-mart vacuum.
So if the 626 came after the 625 shouldn't it have a metal handle?

If this means anything, the Eureka Dial-A-Nap upright (Model 1425 I think) that Countryguy Gary adopted from me recently is from 1982. It has the same Eureka Williams-style logo (curvey "E" in a red box) as this unit, no headlight, but also came with a two-piece plastic handle. So the plastic handles were definitely in the stores in Florida (where my parents bought it for me) in the winter of 1982-83. The ad slogan on the box was "gets the dirt you can't see" with little cartoony characters playing the dirt!

I love the moss green 2300 series uprights! Such a classy evolution from the popular and powerful Rugulators and Dial-A-Naps of the 1970's! The cool, low rise rounded hood + the cursive writing is really beautiful. Love the way Eureka branded this series - Sleek, slender and "Continental"!!! My only gripe is that they should have made the Rugulator adjuster in moss green too - the red stands out too much.....

I can't

believe they started with the plastic handles so early on. That's really my only gripe with the units. They always feel like you're reeling in a 25 pound fish. I don't like the give they have in the handle.

As for the pictue, it looks better there. The top of the metal housing it scratched pretty bad right on the top. Everything else will clean up.

It's still a fun toy to have!

the 625, was the starting price point for the 3 or 4 uprights that K Mart mart sold that year. The 625, has only 2 settings
on the dial A Nap. If your 626, has a metal handle, it probably has a 6 setting Dial A Nap. Right? If not, then it has a slide adjustment! as a step up price point,with the metal handle, but still has the 1400 series motor. It all had to do with K Mart hitting a certain mark up % as they went up the line. 625, may have been Reg. priced at 79.89, then go on sale for a 30.00 off or 49.99, Then the 626, reg. priced at 89.89 or 99.99 (don't remember for sure)(after all it was over 30+ years ago) LOL ! They want their top end Eureka to be sale priced at 99.99 (with or without attachments). Remember
at that time Eureka carried K-Mart, while Hoover was still a big gun in the department stores like Federated. K Mart was only carring 2 Hoover uprights, which we priced between the Low end Eureka and the mid price and High end. Hoover had one cannister and maybe a Port A Power in the line up. Along with 2 Eureka cannisters. Suction only at 59.99 (with floor brush) and then a 99.99 Roto Matic Eureka power team. It was very planned out. Plus all Eureka uprights took F & G paper bags. Hoover pushed stock for C, D , Etc. K mart did NOT like that but put up with it for a few years !
That's what I remember from being a Eureka Rep. back in the day !

for the info. Yes, the carpet selector only has two settings. Is the lower housing/bumper correct on the unit as well?
