hey there everyone

i found something this weekend that a, i dont have till now b, is kind of odd ball. its a nice mint eureka ultra from the 80's that was found at a thrift store in this godforsaken city for $15.00 but somthing me nor my company at the time (who was phillip muller kirbyvertibles) could figure out . this particualr ultra has a on speed swich in the top of the handle, most ive seen have a step swich. did eureka also make a two speed ? and was this a higher end tan others on the market at the time ? thanks all

Eureka Ultra

No, it never did come in a two-speed version. It's an interesting machine in that it was one of the first (after Oreck of course) to have the bag in front of the handle, yet still a conventionally mounted motor. I have the nutmeg colored version (with step-on switch) and perforated vinyl outer bag. I don't know if they just didn't sell well, but there aren't many of these machines left today. The same is true of the Eureka Precision (which was clearly competing against the Hoover Concept 1).

WOW!!!

I have never seen a red Ultra like that! What a beautiful machine, and a great performer too. Highly rated in Consumer Reports in the 1980's. I think it sports a Vibra-Groomer II, if I am not mistaken.

Don't know about two speeds, but I think all the Eureka Ultras had an odd "high + low" suction switch on the main motor hood down below somewhere. I think it was a suction valve, and not an electrical switch to modify the motor speed.

Enjoy using this great machine! Hope you have some nice deep plush carpets that will look great after getting the Ultra treatment.
