Nice looking machine!

Very nice looker Hans!..and it sounds like the performance was also very good for its day.

We didn't have those in the UK, though we had one called a Parnall, which was similar in some ways - not sure how similar?

There were and still are a wide variety of machines available in the U.S that we don't see over here eg Kenmores. Then there are machines, such as Goblins, which you say you don't see over there..

European Machines...

I would LOVE to get a hold of some European machines...Morphy Richards, Goblin, Tellus ETC, I love the unusual, and having never seen those in person, they are unusual to me.

Tell us about it!..get it?

I have three Tellus machines but they all need restoring. In particular, the hose on one of them is somewhat beyond redemption; perhaps I'll eventually find something to replace it with.

One of mine has a little heater attachment. Also I've noticed that the method of securing the carbon brushes varies. Some have black plastic/bakelite screw-in covers, whilst others IIRC have a little plate held in with a couple of screws. Maybe there was a problem with the other type vibrating undone?

Just FYI, the 220V UK Parnall Tenten (Model 1010) was made by Eureka in the USA, and is almost identical to the Mobile-Aire, down to the colour, cardboard tool carrier and Vibra-Beat Carpet Nozzle.

I think it was the only 1960's Eureka ever to be sold in Europe!

Please post pictures!!!Stephen!

Of the Tellus and any other European machines!! I would love to see them!

Thanks for the info/messages!

Brian, thanks for the information! I thought that the Parnall was very similar. It's one of those ones that I keep saying I'll get one day.

Hans' I'll try to take some pictures as soon as I can. One Tellus machine languishes in the cellar in a cardbox box at present so perhaps I can dig it out next time I'm off work. The others are somewhat buried in my unit down the road..but I'll see what I can dig out when I get chance.

I'm just trying to get a 1920s mower engine apart at present but have been held up due to running out of gas to heat the inserts up in the head.

Anyway I'm certainly not short of things to fix up!

Eureka vibra beat

Hans,,That is a sweet machine for sure! As luck would have it,, Marty Rocha showed up at my door step to give me a gift, and it is the same eureka you have! Complete with all the goodies and box! I had been searching for one of those for a long time, as my mom had one. I have many memories of using one of those! Now we will have to sawp pics! I think they must be twins,,it would be interesting to see how far apart the serial numbers are. Victor

Marty!!!

Is a great guy, havent talked to him for a while,he was at several conventions I attended,as far as the serial number goes we are out of luck, the information plate is gone off the bottom, unlike some machines,it was glued on not riveted, but when I had the motor apart the date on the armature was 11 58 so it had to be an early model as this was introduced in 59.

I want a Lawnboy!

I've got so many mowers but I'd like to pick up a Lawnboy sometime Hans. They're not so common over here, though they do exist. The other one to look out for with 2 stroke engines are Victas; I've had a few of them!

I've been interested in mowers about as long as cleaners...but they take up so much room that I have to rent a garage at the moment.

As for the JAP engine, some good news; the new gas welder has arrived today -I've got those inserts out plus the inlet valve and the pin through the fan but still need to free the exhaust valve.

Victa???

That is a new one on me!!Its a shame you can't buy a decent lawn mower anymore, now you have to be a weightlifter to push one of the heavy things, when I was a kid I used to help a older man mow his yard,he had a 1956 Craftsman mower with a 2 cycle Power Products engine,18 inch cut,it was so light you could mow all day and not get tired...I would like to see a Victa, I never heard of that!

Nothing like a LAWN-BOY!

Best mower ever made...you can have all the four cycle engines you want...you will never have the power you have with the two cycle and they never die.

Light weight, cut evenly...start on the first pull everytime...unless of course the owner does something stupid...

Morgan

You got that right!

There's nothin' like a lawn boy. Sitting under the Weeping Willow on those blustery days, and the lawn boy bringing you cool glasses of iced tea and......

Oh, lawn mowers.

I must look for one of those boys!

I must look for one of those Lawnboys; it's just that I collect so many different ones that I keep running out of space and money!

I know that one of the things that go on them sometimes are the crankcase seals...but they shouldn't be too much trouble to replace. I had one fail on a Victa 550 Pro, which was a bit of a swine to strip down since, although I had a suitable puller tool to remove the pulley (it was a self-propelled one) I had to borrow a special tool from another dealer to get the big-end undone.

I now have one of the Victa Special Tools for the big end..but there's more than one special tool, depending on the model/when it was made!

I wanted to steam ahead with my mowers...but have been put off by mum, who has just paid £850 to have crazy paving done and has had me cleaning oil spots off the path!

Sorry if I've deviated from the main topic on this thread..but you know how one thing leads to another!
Couldn't resist posting at least one Lawnboy video!

Here's a Tellus!

Hans, here's the Tellus I was talking about down in the cellar.

It needs some TLC, to say the least, including replacement of the leads before I attempt to run it. The hairdryer attachment looks especially lethal!

The hose has been codged up to work/keep dust in.

When I saw this machine listed on Ebay, it was in the original Tellus box. Unfortunately, when it arrived, the seller had discarded that box in favour of another one, probably in better condition.

Close-up of the dryer.

Here's the hair-dryer at close range. There's an attachment for the extension pipes, so the electrical lead must supply the heater only. I wonder if this overheats when the cleaners exhaust is not connected?

I wont dare ask if any of yous has used one to dry your hair, that is those of you who have any to dry..
Perhaps this blower was designed for another purpose?

Stephen

Sorry, must have forgotton the picture

Dryer at close range..

As can be seen, the cable leading into it has deteriorated, as it has on the main cleaner and there are some bare shorted wired sticking out! I'll attend to that later, not plugging it in like that..
