This!!!!

Is another one of those things I had wanted a long time, the date on the motor is 11-58 so it is a early 59 model.

all it needed.

in addition to cleaning was a new cord and a good repacking of the bearings, very good airflow and suction, more powerful than a lot of other machines on the market at that time, also I think it was the first Vibra Beat.

Very cool Hans. I had an aunt who lived in Richmond Virginia who had that very machine. She stored it in a vinyl hamper in the closet in her living room. I remember being there one day and my mom finally relenting and letting me use Aunt Shirley's sweeper. And use it I did! To this day my cousins tease me about the time we came to visit there and I vacuumed their entire house, even the front and rear porches!

They lived in a duplex. The lady next-door had a Kirby, one of the models with a gray vinyl handle grip, and of course I was too scared to go anywhere near it!

Very nice find.

I have the Singer badged version of this machine, the Golden Glide C2

It is one of my favorite vacs to use, and I love its styling

Smelling Salts Please.......

Now that I have gained my strength and gotten up off the floor....WOW!

What an awesome surprise Hans.

what is your address again...Oh that's right....I have the records here....perhaps I can sweet talk Donald into sending me a key to the property...let's see...first a Hamilton Beach, then perhaps an Air-Way...Oh...what about the Eureka Mobile Air, Ken Kart...hey, I drive a Buick...plenty of trunk space...

Han's, keep the pictures coming....

Damn...I really shouldn't think out loud...Han's ignore this post...not worth your time to read it...

Ah, the Mobilaire, one of my top 10 favorite vacuums. I've wanted one for ever so long and it was a giddy thrill when I found mine at Kyle's, and a few weeks later, the blue 60s one with the suction dial on top. So stylishly handsome a take on late 50's themes. Such a soothing colour combination. Crafted of heavy gauge steel thoughout. Surprisingly strong quiet suction - mine pulls an honest 70". And except for the motor, it's all bag chamber. I love the capacity of the fan-fold L bag but they are not easy to find anymore.
Do you have many bags for it, Hans? The still available DVC Eureka fanfold bag Style S is the same bag with a different cardboard mount and can be easily adapted.

Just beautiful Hans!! Where in the world did you find this treasure? I always thought those were such good looking machines. It looks like it has a cord winder, does it?

Terry

No cordwinder...

The pedal is the switch,Terry, this came from Roanoake Robert,he is always on the look out for vacuums at estate sales,he also got my Norge stove for me, Roanoake Va. seems to be good for junk hunting!!

You sure have one great machine there Hans. Robert is such a great guy isn't he? Good thing that he is always on the look-out for you.

Terry

Wow! that is in great shape. It looks nice accompanied by it tool caddy. It looks great. How is the hose? does it leak? I think Eureka isnt as prone to leaking, correct?

Speaking of which...

As I am cleaning, packing, throwing out, and setting aside for thrift shop donations I am going through hundreds of old homemaker ads, pulling out the interesting vacuum cleaner ads and then will donate the mags.

Just this morning I came across this ad and had to stop what I was doing to scan and post it!

Nice looking machine!

Very nice looker Hans!..and it sounds like the performance was also very good for its day.

We didn't have those in the UK, though we had one called a Parnall, which was similar in some ways - not sure how similar?

There were and still are a wide variety of machines available in the U.S that we don't see over here eg Kenmores. Then there are machines, such as Goblins, which you say you don't see over there..

European Machines...

I would LOVE to get a hold of some European machines...Morphy Richards, Goblin, Tellus ETC, I love the unusual, and having never seen those in person, they are unusual to me.

Tell us about it!..get it?

I have three Tellus machines but they all need restoring. In particular, the hose on one of them is somewhat beyond redemption; perhaps I'll eventually find something to replace it with.

One of mine has a little heater attachment. Also I've noticed that the method of securing the carbon brushes varies. Some have black plastic/bakelite screw-in covers, whilst others IIRC have a little plate held in with a couple of screws. Maybe there was a problem with the other type vibrating undone?

Just FYI, the 220V UK Parnall Tenten (Model 1010) was made by Eureka in the USA, and is almost identical to the Mobile-Aire, down to the colour, cardboard tool carrier and Vibra-Beat Carpet Nozzle.

I think it was the only 1960's Eureka ever to be sold in Europe!

Please post pictures!!!Stephen!

Of the Tellus and any other European machines!! I would love to see them!

Thanks for the info/messages!

Brian, thanks for the information! I thought that the Parnall was very similar. It's one of those ones that I keep saying I'll get one day.

Hans' I'll try to take some pictures as soon as I can. One Tellus machine languishes in the cellar in a cardbox box at present so perhaps I can dig it out next time I'm off work. The others are somewhat buried in my unit down the road..but I'll see what I can dig out when I get chance.

I'm just trying to get a 1920s mower engine apart at present but have been held up due to running out of gas to heat the inserts up in the head.

Anyway I'm certainly not short of things to fix up!

Eureka vibra beat

Hans,,That is a sweet machine for sure! As luck would have it,, Marty Rocha showed up at my door step to give me a gift, and it is the same eureka you have! Complete with all the goodies and box! I had been searching for one of those for a long time, as my mom had one. I have many memories of using one of those! Now we will have to sawp pics! I think they must be twins,,it would be interesting to see how far apart the serial numbers are. Victor

Marty!!!

Is a great guy, havent talked to him for a while,he was at several conventions I attended,as far as the serial number goes we are out of luck, the information plate is gone off the bottom, unlike some machines,it was glued on not riveted, but when I had the motor apart the date on the armature was 11 58 so it had to be an early model as this was introduced in 59.

I want a Lawnboy!

I've got so many mowers but I'd like to pick up a Lawnboy sometime Hans. They're not so common over here, though they do exist. The other one to look out for with 2 stroke engines are Victas; I've had a few of them!

I've been interested in mowers about as long as cleaners...but they take up so much room that I have to rent a garage at the moment.

As for the JAP engine, some good news; the new gas welder has arrived today -I've got those inserts out plus the inlet valve and the pin through the fan but still need to free the exhaust valve.
