That is a bagless version of the Eureka Oxygen upright. Made in the UK, it was sold in a metallic light blue to match the Eureka Oxygen canister made by Electrolux in Hungary.

There was a dark orange version sold in North America as the Electrolux Aptitude, which came on the market when Sweden's Electrolux bought back the rights to use their brand name in North America.

I remember a dark blue Kenmore bagless upright from several years ago. Can't remember the name of it, it was one of fraternity brothers. Wide rear wheels, that were closer to the center than edge, Sliding adjustable power on/off switch on handle. I think the inner parts in the dirt cup area were yellow? The agitator made contact, almost at like an angle to the rug, the vacuums floor head was highly elevated off of the ground and the agitator cavity hit the floor at the steep angle which I didn't think did well with cleaning. The handle had a different angle to it, similar to Eureka's "Backsaver" handle design, and carpet height adjustment I believe was automatic. I was QUITE unimpressive with the cleaning performance of my fraternity brothers' vacuum. It was awful to empty as well.

The design is similar to this Electrolux Aptitude shown below except the Aptitude is bagged. Other than the Electrolux Aptitude I don't know of any other vacuums on the market to compare that one to.

Otherwise a vacuum with the dirt cup pictured in your photo and backsaver handle would be a Eureka Whirlwind. They had several different models, some black & yellow, some maroon & yellow, some teal, they had 12" and 15" wide Whirlwinds, some with other other names besides Whirlwind as well such as Power Plus. I'll search eBay for one of those as well. However the Whirlwind design is quite different from the Kenmore I've mentioned above. The Whirlwind cleans a lot better, is much easier to maintain, motor is quiet and more pleasant sounding. As cheaply built as the Whirlwind is, I wouldn't doubt it being more durable than the Kenmore above.

Eureka Whirlwind

Here is a picture I googled for a Eureka Whirlwind. You can see that the hose is positioned much differently compared to Electrolux Aptitude/ older Kenmore Bagless. Back saver handle, no switch on handle, top cord hook does not swivel, Dirt cup intake is very similar to the one you have pictured.

Now there was also a Self Propelled Eureka Whirlwind. They tended to have a skinny metal handle, with possibly switches on the handle, probably to control the self propel.

Let us/ me know if any of these machines are what you were thinking of for U.S. manufacturing. I want to say the Kenmore is probably mid- late 90's for manufacturing and Eureka Whirlwind was around 2001, being on the market for a few years. Electrolux Aptitude approx. 2007, not sure, but might still be some on the market now being sold?

Hi Jess,

Here is a link to a little picture of the bagged version called the Eureka Oxygen. The pic you posted is a British bagless version of the same vac. Sweden's Electrolux basically modified the Aptitude upright by replacing the bag compartment with a Eureka Whirlwind dust collection cup.

I never knew that Sears sold a bagless Kenmore version of this British upright!! :-)

thanks

I think the kenmore version came out when the the eureka had the bagless canister because kenmore came out with the same model if I remember right
