Terry - You are correct! It is a "mans" vacuum! LOL

Everyone - Has anyone run accross the problem where the power nozzle on these vacuums is hard to move accross the carpet? In some situations I have found that the suction is too strong and I have to open the suction vent on the hose to move the power nozzle easily. I guess this is normal??? This does not only happen on the Ironsides, but almost any machine that uses these Eureka power nozzles (Compact, Fairfax, etc.).

Matthew - Wow that blue Ironside is a blast from the past. I specifically remember seeing those sold at Montgomery Wards when I was about 10 or 11. I miss being able to go into a department store and seeing those well built vacuums on display. Actually, I miss Montgomery Wards. I really liked that store.

This was free from a client....

Well, It's not Chartreuse or Avocado, like i thought, more of a forest green.

Definitely in need of a spa treatment, smells like a wet dog!!

Brad, where did you get the hose on the Eureka that you gave to your Aunt? I like the strain reliefs on each end.....

The VG II is in good shape, just needs cleaned up, lubed and new brush strips.

What type of lubricant is used on these brushrolls with sleeve type bearings? general purpose grease (lithium), like for ball bearings or something lighter weight, like a white silicon grease?

it is missing it's tools....but those shouldn't be hard to find.

I am kind of excited....it has been a while since i have had a new old vac to work on.

anyone have a time line on this vac...I am guessing 80's.
any info would be much appreciated.

The hose came with the eureka vacuum. It is i nvery good condition too. I bought the vac from the original owner, and payed 25 bucks.It runs as good as it looks.

Hey Guys- working on my power nozzle for the Eureka above.....I have only greased brushrolls with ball bearings until now.

What type of lubricant is used here?

I only have general purpose (EP lithium complex) ball bearing grease or white/clear silicone grease on hand.

Hey Michael I love that green Ironside you have there! I am green with envy! LOL The tools shouldn't be too hard to find and those vacuums are easy to take apart and clean since they are such a basic design. You shouldn't have any problem getting that bad smell out of it. Hey, if you want to polish the paint up after you clean it, car wax works wonders. Just apply and let it dry like you would on a car and then buff off. You'd be surprised at the results.

You weren't kidding about the basic design.... very easy to work on.....yet so efficient, it has great suction!

Unfortunately, the bearing above (post #35610)that i thought needed lubricant, is shot...someone must have used it for a while with the bad bearing because the shaft end on the roll brush is shot as well....but luckily Hesco has all of the parts that i need to get it back up and running.
