Here are some pictures of my Eureka collection. You will notice one has the Viking name. I purchased that vacuum off of Ebay. It may have been used once or twice but still had one of the two original bags still inside.

still more pics

The oldest upright ready for some good dusting action. What a tool convertor, it actually raises the machine off the floor to prevent damage from the brush roll.

Beautiful!

I especially like the creamy blue and white model with the chrome hood. I've never seen that one. I've only seen it with a painted hood. Very lovely!

When I was a little kid, one of our neighbors had an upright vacuum that for some reason I have in my mind was a Eureka -- very similar to this blue one except that it was maroon and gray. Anyone know which model I am talking about? Anyone have the machine? I'd love to see a photo. I've not seen that model since I was, like, three years old, but for some reason it stands out in my memory. I can see it in my mind's eye very vividly.

Charles Richard,

There was a Eureka Super Automatic in the maroon and grey to match the old red/grey roto-matic. I've only seen one, Mike Rogers had it.
Morgan's blue/chrome upright is model 260, maybe series E? Its late 1960's, as it has the switch on the front of the handle.

Gary, most of the Eureka canned hams in Canada were sold by Eatons under their Viking store name. I haven't seen many myself, that's why I was surprised to find that orange one the other week, albeit not a ham, but the squarer one.

Eurekas

I really like the brown upright form the early 50's. I have never seen one with the attachments on. Is the tool end of the hose curved like a cannister hose?? Did all of you notice the square handle. Eureka did that several times in the
next years of 50' and 60's. My blue 260 has the sq. handle
and so did the top of the line (don't know the model #) from
the late 50's. It was a green and ivory model, would like to find one of those! Oh, since the 40's Eureka always had at least one upright model with a two speed switch.
Charles-Richard, wish I could so you a picture of my model D-272, from the 40's. It is burgandy, with a biege bag on the right side, orginal too. It runs like a dream, reminds me of
a Hoover 115 but a full size cleaner. I have pictures on a disk
now, just haven't had anyone to show me how to save them or retreive them. I use a computer at work every day and I still
have troubles with my own pictures and files.

Nice Eurekas!

Great looking vacs, and my favorite also is the brown upright from the 50's. Do you have a production year on that model? I always thought Eureka put out a nice upright. They were glitzy with the chrome, like Hoover was with their colors! Those were the days....

Morgan, that is one beautiful collection! I just love that
"canned ham" model.

I have a couple of old Eaton catalogs boxed away somewhere and once I find them I'll post pics. Dept stores usually sold the same model as "good" "better" & "best" with best having the most buttons and doodads and the good model being pretty plain jane.

Brown upright!!

I just love the brown upright too! I have an ad with that model and its from a magazine from 1947!!!! That just shows Eureka's innovative-ness? Is that a word? Isn't that same low hood style is still being used today with some of the Sanitaire uprights? Morgan, does the disturbulater have to be taken out of the vacuum when you attach the hose? Is there a bottom plate that has be placed over the brush roll opening like later uprights? I remember seeing this upright in St Louis but i can't remember the details of the attachment kit.

Gary

take a peak at the close up on the canned ham in Morgan's other thread. The Bag Guard has both visual and AUDIO. I never noticed the audio feature! I wonder what it sounds like? Maybe like the vibra-beat?
