Eureka Express 8200 Question

I bought this vacuum yesterday and want to know if anyone know how to replace the wheel "rubber" which has crumbled off of all wheels on the canister and the PN?

I imagine there are no replacement wheels and figure the only way to restore them would be to "retread" them.

Cool looking machine, is missing the black dusting brush, the smokey tool compartment cover and of course the wheel treads.

Did come with replacement PN belt and original Owner's Guide. I see it take Eureka V bags. Will check my stash this morning.

I also bought an Electrolux Epic 3500 which needs a new switch and light bulb. The switch acts as an on off, instead of a 3 position. So the suction and the beater bar come on at the same time only.

Any ideas?

Eureka Express

Nice vacs with great style.I don't have the retread answer but this is a common problem with them as well as the power drive F-G style upright rear wheels.

for the part numbers. maybe you can find wheels for both the canister and power head.

These parts are sadly long gone and as Jimmy said it's a very common problem. Every one of them I have has the same problem but I don't let that stop me from enjoying them.

A few years back I found a NIB TOL Eureka Express, even when I opened up the sealed box, the wheels were already sticky and falling apart. I tried glueing, but finally gave it sadly to goodwill. I had one of these when they first came out and really liked it, shortly after that, I decided to try Electrolux and ended up with a nib Discovery III and a Marquis nib canister. I have always had an Electrolux canister and upright since then, along with my vintage vacuums.

In my opinion, that was Eureka's last TOL vacuum they made, then came the World Vacs....

I had one..

It was white with dark green trim I think and it had no wheel issues. Maybe they corrected the problem by that model. It still had the promotional sticky label on top telling all the features. I thought it was really a nice machine. I think it had the on/off switch on the handle IIRC. I gifted it to Scott M. at the STL convention. Scott, if you read this, any wheel issues? I loved the power nozzle with the vibra-groomer brushroll, and it stayed flat when going under low furniture.

Phillip, I am cleaning up the canister on my work bench right now. I have an idea involving windshield wiper hosing...splitting and glueing.

The Electrolux Epic 3500

Turns out the handle was broken. Called my guy who said he had one, the switch, pre-motor filter, light bulb and a piece I used to replace on of the electrical wires because the old one was a bit fried. Just before I was to leave, the cord hook came right off. I popped the plastic rivets, screwed the cord hook back to it's base. I also bought 2 pairs of replacement rivets. I had thought of just machine screws..maybe next time.

So the Electrolux is fixed. Now to sell my Epic 2500.

BTW, he never heard of the tool dealers used to change the hose-to-canister end, but he did have a tool that compresses the wire "plug" restraining the cord to the handle. Good thing I brought the piece with cord with me.

I have been reading, and no wheel issues to report on my one. I think the wheels are completely plastic, with the machine being nearer to the bottom of the line (I think).

The power nozzle absolutely makes that machine, the canister is okay, the hose is meh, but the power nozzle is fantastic. Thanks again for it Rick! I use it much more that I thought I would.

I have also experienced this problem with the uprights, sad to report that I am also unaware of any fix.

The Model number is 8288, it is coral bodied, coral wheels and PN cover. The PN has the Vibragroomer III...chrome brushroll. But the light bulb in it was oversized, probably the wrong one or they had a wrong bulb before because the surrounding plastic has warped. Not enough to cause performance issues, just looks.

Looks like the wheels can be switched if I find some that work. There is a sticker on the bottom of the canister that talks about a warranty, 1991 to 1992,

There is at least one Express canister on Ebay.  May be worth buying for parts.


 


A quick fix idea- get a roll of clear packing tape.  Turn the machine over and put a line of tape on each wheel.  Maybe wrap a couple of times. Attach the tape end to the tread then holding the spool in one hand, use the other hand to turn the wheel and wind the tape onto the wheel.

I found both wheels new!

A Eureka Express power nozzle is a Beam Rugmaster Power nozzle which is still manufactured and available from Beam.

Eureka may not make the parts but Beam does. I've compared photos of my former Eureka Express canister vacuum cleaner and the baseplates and every detail seems to match up.

Model numbers for the Beam Rugmaster power nozzle can be as follows: 045389, 045322, 045320

The front wheels for the Beam Rugmaster Power nozzle are coming up as: 155413, they are $2.25 from the link below.

HUGE thanks Rob! I already ordered the rear wheels for the canister. I need to check my parts tub, I think I have an old Eureka PN which still should have the rear wheels. *please don't let that be a part I recycled*. I doubt it is the same model, but I will check. If not, I will get the rear wheels online.

Man Rob, you did the kind of research I normally do.
I had hesitated because I did not want to remove the coral originals. I focused on retreading instead of replacement.

Now all I need is the tool cover and the eureka brush. I looked through my dust brushes, no Eureka. I am sure I will find one.

I will post the finished machine when everything is done.

Hope you can find coral-coloured originals! If not, is there a way to repaint your replacements so that the new colour will match and be durable enough to stay put on the rolling surfaces of the wheels?

Hey Brian, well I was able to cancel my order for the rear wheels because I found a pair of large electric blue wheels (from a cheap blue bagless machine I harvested) that had a removable tread. They fit the wheels well enough as there is a close clearance between the upper half of the wheel and the canister body/wheel well.

I must have recycled the Eureka parts *DRAT*. But I did order the Beam/Eureka wheels from USAVacuum. I even did a search for the coupon code and got a little off of the order. They have a couple of parts I could get to replace the internal plastic parts that are slightly warped.

I wonder if I should replace the bulb that was in there or buy a different one. No way of knowing if the old bulb caused the damage.

Maybe consider changing the socket so you can use a lower profile wedge base bulb.

Ever since I found Hesco years ago, I've been kinda addicted to it. Sears Parts outlet is another great place to research certain parts.

I've known for a while that Beam had the Rugmaster head. The Rugmaster version is essentially a rebadged exact copy of the Express power head that Eureka had. Eureka mainly called that power head as the Express. However it did reappear some years later on the Eureka Europa canister and some Oxygen units by Eureka. I think the Eureka Oxygen units are what led to the Electrolux Oxygen units when Eureka bought the Electrolux name and created that new line.

When the Electrolux line came out, the Express power nozzle was never a part of that line.

There is also a non-headlight version of the Express power nozzle on the market which goes by the name: SweepnGroom. I've only ever seen it called SweepnGroom and not actually a known manufacturer such as Nutone, Eureka, Beam or otherwise.

But anyway, please keep me posted!!

Oh yeah--
The Eureka Express that I used to have only had plastic wheels on the canister body. They were teal blue. My Eureka Express was 8281D. It had a 12 Amp, 5 HP motor system. It originally came with a wood brush roll, which I was confused over so I upgraded it to the the metal VGIII.
