Hello, I recently went to a garage sale we're a family was liquidating a relative's estate. They said this Vac was in the attic among some junk.I immediately fell in love with its look and bought it.Its plate reads model D272.It's top or hood is bakelite and the rest is steel painted candy Apple Red.It runs very well and I believe it's all original.Let me know if anything much about this old vac.I'm intrigued and couldn't find out much about it.

The D272 is a post world war II model. In fact, it's the model Eureka "came back" with. It ran for about three years before Eureka introduced the "automatic", which is still here to this day as the Sanitaire. Other than its bakelite housing, the D272 is virtually identical to the "Challenger, model M" that took Eureka right up to the start of the war.

Very nice find!  I'd love to acquire one some day.

I had one

Once, dumb like I let it get away, rated very highly by Consumer Reports in either 47 or 48,really a good well built machine.

Really,Wow I didn't know that info on it.There's not much on the net about it except that it was fairly rare.I love the sanitares.I've never seen one of these ever before.I've had a few I've let get away from me too.I know how that is.Thanks for all your input and compliments.I'd like to find out the date of manufacturing for this model but I don't know how to read their serial numbers.
