I wish I had taken a before picture (the seller may have one). It looked like a building had fallen on it when I got it. I took it to Bremerton Office Machines who redid the motor, sandblasted and painted it, and had new decals made by a company in the Netherlands. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TypewriterDecalShop This shop just needs a picture of the existing decal with a ruler for scale--they work wonders.

I’m pretty sure that the bag pictured is not original and is a replacement. Those bags with the plastic Eureka label came much later than this vacuum. The motor base is from the late 1960’s because it has no vents and a rocker toe switch. The bag shown would have come with a 1970’s upright with vents and a push button toe switch.

The bag

The original bag was dark gray with EUREKA running down it in white letters. It was crusty, water damaged, and rusty, with a horrible mold smell. The base has been repainted in a slightly lighter hammertone finish (for durability).

Nick,

That turned out great! I admire your resolve to get your 238-D refurbished to its original luster. Thanks also for sharing the info. of the Netherlands company.

The Model 238's type differences are easily noticeable. A couple examples are K5vac's Type B photo from post 460248 with the tool port and original colors of cream and gray and the Type H with a headlight (no photo available).

Post a video if you can.

Happy Eureka-ing!
