Going by advertising and VL comments, Eureka's 200 and 2000 Series main enamel colors from late 1960 to late 1975 were Ivory & Lagoon Blue (late 1960 to late 1972), Cream & Gray (1962-1975), 2-Tone Blue (possibly Light Lagoon Blue with Dark Lagoon Blue trim, late 1966 to late 1981), Gold Mist & Fawn Beige? (late 1968 to late 1975) Moss Green & Fawn Beige (late 1972 to late 1975), and Queen Anne Gold & Fawn Beige (late 1972 to late 1975). Colors for the 700 Series during that time, however, were 2-Tone Blue (possibly Light & Dark Lagoon Blue) and Gold Mist and off-white trim with Teakwood accent.

Moss Green was mentioned as a new upright color in late 1972. Model-Types from that period were: 2012-A, 2022-A, 2032-A, 2042-A, and 2052-A.

Advertising for the Model-Type 270-B "Custom" beginning in 1968 and for the 2080-A "Vanguard" in 1969 mentioned no colors—at least that I noticed. By observation I had presumed that these were also enameled in Moss Green & Fawn Beige until I noticed the concurrent 700 Series advertisements that referenced Gold Mist & Teakwood.

Now I wonder—were the 1968-72 uprights, 270-B, 2080-A, and 2070-D, enameled in Gold Mist? To me the two colors are very similar; although seeing them side by side in person would reveal more of a contrast. What do you know or perceive?

Maybe I perceive the colour “gold” differently, but to me those Princess canisters with the fake woodgrain inlay always looked like avocado green to me. Whenever Eureka would label some model “gold”, I would see more of a green tone. Like the deluxe Empress II FastVac with VibraBeat nozzle. The only colours I actually perceived as coming close to gold were Eurekas labelled Harvest Gold or Queen Anne Gold. All other golds advertised by Eureka (other than Harvest Gold and Queen Anne Gold) appeared to me like a light green or greenish beige.

Glad to hear that, Brian. I thought it was just my vision that saw more green than gold. I took for granted that all the cleaners above were Moss Green and was keeping an eye out for the Gold Mist versions that looked more like, well, gold!

Here are a couple examples of companies' renditions of Gold Mist. The first is closer to what Eureka used; so I have to take back my conjectures that either the advertisers goofed or the enamel had been mislabeled!

E2080

One more thing on this thread's initial post, Brian ...

Were all Canadian Eureka model numbers at the time of the Vanguard prefixed with an 'E', were those that were sold at Eaton's, or what?

Interesting question, Paul! I don’t know….the best overview of Canadian Eurekas one can find is the website created by Doug Smith in Saskatchewan. If you peruse the three sections entitled Eureka, Viking and Baycrest or Beaumark, you will see many of the Made-in-Canada Eurekas….with their exact model numbers and years of manufacture. It seems that some American-made Eurekas were also sold as Vikings.

Also look at Doug’s section on Singer vacuums - many were also made by Eureka. In fact, this arrangement with Singer extended overseas to France where many Eureka-made Singers were sold - including a turtle-shaped Singer Princess in the 1960’s!!!!

Interesting footnote: I bought a white Eureka bare floor brush on a trip to the USA in the mid 1980’s. I needed one to add to my set of upright attachments for my basic 1425 Dial a Nap upright. To my amazement, the words “Made in Canada” were embossed on the inside of the brush! It may actually have been more economical for Eureka to produce all their white attachments in Canada in the 1980’s! Who knows?

Moss Green

Here are a couple specimens of Moss Green paint from stores. The former appears to me to be a closer match to that used by Eureka Williams; possibly due to the metallic composition.

We make a great Eureka research team—great idea to check out Doug's website and noteworthy info. you discovered from your attachments and Doug's collection of Eureka-made Singers (I was unaware). Thanks!

Pain Matching

If you are looking to match the green of the Vanguard and like colored uprights, the closest match that I got to was Ford P1 Lime Gold metallic. Common color offered on Mustangs

This is so interesting! You know, if someone could post one picture of a Eureka 2080 Cordaway upright (Vanguard) side by side next to a Queen Anne Gold 2083 or 2082 Cordaway upright, you will see how green that 2080 looks.

I just remember how all the major appliances for kitchens were being offered in Avocado or Harvest Gold in the early 1970’s. So I always assumed Eureka was following those colour trends in the same time period.

Even the flesh of a real avocado shows green and yellow tones that get mixed together when you make gaucamole!!!! 😁

Photo originally posted by TheSpiritOf76 (Jae) that shows the comparisons and contrasts of presumed Gold Mist, Moss Green, and Queen Anne Gold (along with Wild Moss and Brandywine). The presumed Gold Mist appears lighter than the Moss Green to me.

Model-Types & Years—left to right: 2070-D ('72)—in presumed Gold Mist, 2083-A ('74)—in Queen Anne Gold, 2042-A ('73)—in Moss Green, 2385-A Continental "Chic" ('76)—in Wild Moss, 2325-A Continental "Casual" ('76)—in Wild Moss, 2097-A ('78)—in Brandywine

So the next question is ... Was Fawn Beige paired with both the 2042-A's Moss Green and the 2070-D's base color? I see no difference.
