Elux AP-280 , only one speed

I opened an AP-280 for the first time earlier today because the motor was noisy and I suspected the bearing has to be changed, what I did without any problem.

I know for sure that both speeds (HI and LOW) worked properly before I did the bearing replacement. NOw , I have only one speed, the motor draws 5.2 A, so I assume this is the low speed, am I right ?

Is there a chance I plugged a wire a bit loose and it simply got unplugged when I put all things together? Other ideas ?

Francois, yes it's possible a wire isn't connected properly, but it's much more likely that the field coil wires in the motor that make the motor run on high speed burn out. This isn't the only canister motor known to do this - Kenmore 4.5 canisters with the high-low switch & Filter Queen & TriStar canisters with the high-low switch also burn out on the high speed, because it's used most often.

I would replace the motor, & have the repair shop replace it with a single speed motor. That way, it won't burn out like this again, & the speed control isn't even needed on a Electrolux since it has a bleeder valve on the hose anyways.

I understand what you wrote, but how would the high speed coils burn while I was fixing the bearing? I mean, both speeds were working before the fix, and now only low speed works, and I haven't used the vac in the meantime.

I would not bring it to the shop to have the motor changed, I could easily chenge it myself.

I splitted the vac body and pulled the motor out and undid the motor plastic cover the electric connections are in.

WHen I compared the way I connected the wires after bearing fix with the way they were on the picture I took while disassembly, I realized I probably hold the cover upside down while connecting to wires, so all of the connections were wrong, except one.

I'm surprised the motor even worked like this.

It works like a charm now on both high and low speeds.

Well, congratulations on fixing the motor on your AP280 Francois. By the way, just so you know, there is a aftermarket 2 speed AP280 motor available for your Electrolux if you wanted to replace it & keep the 2 speeds, it's available thru JohnnyVac.

The motor bearing change (number 608) is pretty easy when the fan covers aren't ceased up with rust, then two rivets have to be drilled out of the bearing retaining plate and replaced with small bolts and nuts with locktite, that's about it.
