Electrolux XXX motor

Hi all, I have an early 50s model XXX with the hammer-tone blue accents that has a bad motor. I guess the bearings are seized up, because it just makes a horrible grumbling noise when turned on. I have considered upgrading the machine with a newer, more powerful motor, like one from a Model G.


What kind of modifications would be required to make a G motor work in the XXX? I believe the motor mounts are the same, but am not sure about the wiring. 


Would I be better off just refurbishing the XXX motor? If so, what size bearings do I need?

Kirbyduh! I would like to piggyback onto your thread and ask a similar question. I have a Lux model 12 that has the same problem and think it would be fun to upgrade it to a more modern motor and actually use it. I was wondering if the mounts and motors were interchangable with this model also? Looking forward to hearing the responses on this one!!

The G motor should fit into the model XXX since the mountings are basically the same.
As to wiring, the model XXX had the 2 motor wires and 2 wires that came from the capacitor, I don't remember if the G used a capacitor or not (I know the F did). If not then it's only 2 wires to worry about.

The model XII uses a whole different mounting system then the XXX series and up. So no that would not work. The 12 has 3 small screws the go thru the bakelite mounting ring into the outer housing of the 12. You unscrew those and then twist the motor slightly then it will slide out of the outer housing. The motor itself is suspended by springs inside the ring.

The model XXX uses a 627 bearing for the rear and a 629 bearing for the front.

Forget the Electrolux motor, at this point buy a Ametek Lamb hi performance motor the same one that was used in Miele's and Kenmore Whispertones, get a Lamb motor adapter plate, fasten the motor to the place in install it, your Model XXX will pull over 125" of water lift on a suction gauge. I am not sure if anyone seen my Super XXX at the 2008 North Canton convention, but it was there and won the Monster Vac contest because of the high suction and I had a Simplicity power nozzle installed on it, it out cleaned most new vacuums on the market today. If you need assistance doing the conversion let me know.

Where do you find the Ametek Lamb adapter plate? I have a new lamb motor to put into an XXX project I'vestarted and would like to find that plate. Thanks!

Just bought this from a lady getting divorced. Starts and stops intermittently. Any ideas? If I remove the hose its runs ok. Where can I get a pictorial of how to disassemble?

When you connect the hose does the bag full light come on? Do you have to shut the power off then turn it back on (this resets the switch configuration)?

My guess would be that the control valve is leaking where the knob screws into the body of the valve and needs to be replaced.

where could someone locate this elusive adapter nodule.

I have the lamb motor adaptors. Unfortunately they don't come with the gaskets anymore, you would have to make a gasket to seal the plate to the motor and than another one to seal the plate to the machine, they work great. These are universal plates, they can be used on 3 screw mounting machines such as the Model XXX or Model G, and can also be used on 4 hole mounts such as the Model L. If anyone wants one let me know, they are $15.00 plus shipping.
