Electrolux XXX (Model#30) New Owner Questions!

Hi, I'm new to the forum and the world of vacuum collecting. I'm not exactly a vacuum collector but consider my self one who prefers to preserve! I have everything from radios and fans, police scanners and vintage adding machines, I collect whatever catches my eye. And today I came across a yard sale in Burbank CA and for a whole two dollars purchased my very first Electrolux XXX. I'm stoked to own it, but I need a boiled down list on general/recommended maintainance, and step-by-step instructions on how to properly disassemble this beauty so I can dust off the cobwebs and get her working again.

I appreciate all feedback and advice handed down from vacuum guru/experts and newcomers alike! Thank you for your time and I look forward to showing you all photos of the finished restoration : )

Welcome to Vacuumland and congratulations on your preservation propensity including your recent $2.00 Electrolux Model XXX purchase!

I did want to mention:

1) that you will find your cleaner's serial (5 digits sandwiched between 2 letters) stamped on the top of the front trim. The bottom of the front trim has the data stamp (model and ratings)

2) that you should only clean the cloth bag (if it has one--some have the paper filter bag adapter) by shaking and/or vacuuming it. Washing it with water will remove the sizing and thus diminish its filtering quality.

4) that you may be able to find out the ballpark time your cleaner was manufactured by removing the back cover and viewing the on/off switch for a month/year stamp--unless your switch has been replaced (to my knowledge, anyway, all the original switches were stamped)

5) that Electrolux Corporation (now named Aerus LLC) manufactured the cleaner between 1937-41 and 1945-54--it had been a subsidiary of AB Electrolux of Sweden, which manufactures appliances sold in department stores (Aerus products--for the most part--have been sold door-to-door)
