This post is the last installment of the Electrolux (Aerus Lux) Exhibition of UK, US, & CA surface care appliances featuring the upright models. It, too, is a guide rather than an historical record; being mainly based on observations, conversations, and recollections.
By the way, US and US/CA serial numbers provide no production times; being comprised of a 2-letter series (first and last characters) and a 5-digit production number. Interestingly, the US company has been using this same format at least since launching its Model XXX in 1937. The companies' shipping records of them would provide the best indicator unless there are some other product markings known only to assembly line workers and management. In fact, I was told by an Aerus rep that the computer database of serial numbers that only goes back to the 1980s provides only their initial sales. That means that a cleaner might have been made at the end of one year but sold in the next or possibly even later, resulting in production time speculation rather than certainty in many cases.
Also the production spans of US and US/CA model IDs and model names is uncertain, because some of them were sold both door-to-door and later in other sales lines. There may also have been some overlap in production; so for instance the Genesis and Genesis LX may have been made and marketed together for a time. So any years listed are based on copyright years found in ephemera, by inference or recollection by sales personnel and customers.
Doug Smith's website, http://smithcollection.altervista.org/index.html, and YouTube channels (a-b-c): Andy's Electrolux Collection, Beko1987, The Cleaners Cupboard, Eluxfan71, HooverLux Restorations, Hoover Master, Ilovevacuum79, Isaibaic, Vacuum Tests, and Vintage Appliance Emporium; along with VL posts by those listed on photo pages and chestermikeuk, turbo500 and vacbear58 provided the majority of the information I have collected here. Thank you to them and all others who participated in the VL threads, as well.
Further discussion and photos welcome.
To all those who need an Electrolux upright "fix", enjoy the exhibition.
