WOW did that sell cheap!

I read this and thought, 'bidding war here we come!'

I'd love to see the Thrift Model box!!

There wouldn't have been a bidding war on this eBay model because it was a "Buy It Now" auction. I just hope one of us collectors got it and not some guy who wants a "vac" to clean his garage or car with.

I'm guessing that came out at about the same time the E/AE was in production. The Model E was pretty basic. I wish I still had mine, but I gave it away. How much did the Thrift model cost in comparison to its companion (E/AE?)?

I have heard the Model T derided by more than a few persons due to its simplicity and the fact that some of its parts were overstock from other cleaners; however, the Model S was very much the same and more than a few persons are enamored with it. That seems unfair to the Model T in my book. Following are my observations of similarities and differences between the two:

SIMILARITIES

1) No cord reel or provision for a halo

2) Removable bag cover with plain metal fastener clips

3) Wheels/Mounts

4) Straight suction only (unless modified later)

5) Motor wattages, hertzes, and voltages

6) Debossed cursive word marks on sides of tanks

7) New-style attachments

8) Black Belden cords

DIFFERENCES

1) T - hammertone blue-painted body (matching Model E); S - blue-gray body w/ivory cover and end cap

2) T - smooth cylindrical body; S - tapered oval body with decorative ridging

3) T - blue attachments (matching Model E); S - blue-gray & ivory attachments

4) T - small toggle power switch w/no rubber tips; S - larger toggle power switch w/rubber tip

5) T - cloth bag; S - cloth or disposable bag allowance

This was Electrolux's,

version of Frankenstein's monster! The Edsel of the company if you will!

Actually, it was a way to get rid of spare parts in the factory. Wheels of the model E, handle of the LX/LXI, and so on. It was also the answer to those who said they couldn't afford an Electrolux.

Years ago I had one in my collection in Naperville. It had good suction but as I had no interest in it, gave it to somebody in the club. If memory serves, some member of our old "group' showed interest and I said, "take it home with you."

Charles -

I am updating this thread as I'm guessing you missed the photo of the Model T's carton in reply #8.
