Hi all -
I have been around a few years, but mostly away as I spend a lot of time at aw.org(ovrphil).
I found a complete Electrolux Silverado Deluxe that works just fine. The weakest component was
the cord winder. It worked fine for a while, but eventually failed to completely rewind the cord - leaving about six feet. Since I've had this thing apart a few times, to clean and get ready for use, I decided to try to repair the cord winder. I thought I remembered(didn't take a photo, shame on me)how it was arranged. When I re-wound that flat metal spring, that was it. I'm suspicious that I wound it in the wrong direction, but …ha…probably more to it than just that. There's a vanilla colored round plastic double finned piece that spins around. One of the fins is broken. I will try to get photos, but…here's my question:
Has anyone successfully rewound the spring without finding it returning to a weakened condition? In other words, can I repair this myself (if there are some instructions somewhere), or is it far better to just buy another cord winder? I see ebay prices vary and websites advertising about $50 for a replacement. Ouch. My vacuum isn't pristine, so the incentive is to DIY.
Although I've been lurking many times(some of you have the most awesome collections of vacs, which inspired me to find a few fun units at the thrifts). Thanks for any suggestions.
