Electrolux Replacement Parts-12292021

Hello,
I own a 1981 Olympia One (N74035M) and a 1995 Renaissance (C104A / A72959A). I am not a collector just a satisfied Electrolux user whose vacuums are used on a regular basis to keep my house clean. However, I am looking for some replacement parts for both of these units:

For the Olympia One:
- Flexible hose. Mine is the original braided hose and it is kinked and leaking badly. I believe Electrolux made an improved version that does a better job of maintaining suction. I would prefer the later model if possible.
- New power cord. Mine has a cut in the jacket right where it attaches to the cord reel.
- New cord rewinder spring. Unfortunately, when I was disassembling and cleaning mine, I accidently let the constant force spring slip off the assembly and now it is a twisted mess.
If necessary, I would purchase a full cord rewinder assembly if the individual parts are not available.

For the Renaissance I need a new hose assembly. Mine is in bad shape where it plugs into the canister and has both a vacuum leak as well as an intermittent in the power cable embedded within it.

I am reaching out to this community because the replacement parts that I see on places like e-bay look very cheap and not of the same quality standard as the Electrolux originals. I would not be averse to buying after market parts if you can recommend a reliable source. However, to preserve the integrity of these vacuums I would prefer to have OEM parts if possible.

If you look for genuine Electrolux hoses on eBay, you should be okay. Look for a vinyl replacement hose for the Olympia, rather than the braided one. I have a couple of generic hoses and they're not bad. The biggest problem I've had with them is the screws that secure the little plate that covers the wiring are too short and they work loose but that's easily remedied with a slightly longer screw.

Your best bet on the cord winder is to just buy the whole assembly. Again, eBay is probably as good a place as any to find one and a good, used part won't break the bank.

Here is some help

For the Olympia hose…(we have the same model)….you can go to an Aerus dealer and get a new genuine hose it will work perfectly. You can look on eBay for a used genuine hose, just make sure you get the correct one with the two prongs on the machine end. To tell genuine from non genuine…look closely at the handle…if it has the round dial on it for the suction adjustment, that’s genuine…if it has a power nozzle switch on it or a slide for the suction control that’s NOT genuine. The non genuine ones will be less durable especially the handle. I prefer genuine…the quality is there. A new hose from Aerus Electrolux is about $125 but worth it. It will be flexible vinyl now and lasts far longer than the older braided type that ended up with suction leaks like your original. While the hose is pricey…considering the vac was $500 back in 1982…and is regarded as the very best Electrolux ever made…it’s worth it to take care of it. We have on ours and are still completely satisfied.

Oh and I love that you still have the Olympia owners manual…I just discovered my Mom has hers a few days ago too! They are worth a fortune on eBay! It helps tell you how to properly set the automatic control feature…something people often have no clue how to set properly!

For the Renaissance unfortunately that machine was problematic with the electronics in the hose handle which talk to a circuit board in the machine. My friend had one and had EXACTLY the same issue you have. Aerus Electrolux wanted $289 for a new hose for it back in 2009 and we elected to buy a used Electrolux Marquise model with a bad motor for a bargain off eBay and put the motor from the Renaissance in that machine and it is still running beautifully today.

For the cord winder spring…it can be rewound carefully…I’ve made the same mistake. Just do it slowly. Or I’m pretty sure you can get the spring from Aerus Electrolux and they may not charge you much to put it all back together and replace the cord. My Mom had it done in her golden jubilee when the cord end came off and the cord snapped into the machine and unwound the spring. He replaced the cord for her and put in a new spring and it works beautifully.

If your motor is quiet especially when winding down when shutting off chances are your Olympia will run for many more years to come…the motors are all metal and really last so would be worth the service. We just recently wanted power nozzle service for the Olympia but they don’t make the parts for that nozzle anymore and the dealer gave us a newer nozzle that was a trade in. We paid for the “power nozzle tune up” which including a full clean out, lubrication and replacement of the brush and a two year warranty from Aerus….we couldn’t be more impressed. Now with all 4 items needing replacement, the cord, spring, hose and perhaps the power nozzle tune up…you’ll have to put out a pretty good chunk of money and you may consider gjust replacing with a Lux Classic or Lux legacy. The Classic is very close to the Olympia but doesn’t have the metal accessory wands, instead they are plastic…also instead of the combination rug and floor tool it just has a floor brush tool and the crevice tool is smaller and it does not have the automatic control suction monitoring feature your Olympia has. The Lux Legacy has the automatic control like the Olympia..adds a light to the power nozzle, and a plastic wand system which includes the electrics..it’s quite different. The crevice tool is longer and a more deluxe single sided hard floor tool are different. We have a Lux Classic and a Lux Legacy as well (we have many Aerus Electrolux’s in the family).

If you want to try to do some of this service yourself and save $ I’d probably just type the outer cord casing with black tape if it is just split on the part that stays inside the cord winder for a solution to that issue. Then I’d rewind the spring very carefully onto that spool. It will go on but will take some time. I’ve had good luck with used genuine hoses off eBay…just look closely at the wear and tear on the handle and ends..if really beat up…choose a different one. I’ve bought many and even the more heavily used ones still work.

Perhaps consider a used L shaped power nozzle…so you can get parts in the future and get a new brush for it and it will really renew the cleaning performance of the vacuum on your carpets. We did that and my Mom is very impressed…the power nozzle feels self propelled now with the new bristles and really sweeps the nap much better now.

If you don’t have a sidekick for the Olympia you might want to get one…they are $15-$25 on eBay and really nice for stairs, cars, couches, mattresses, espaecially if you have pets that shed. It was introduced in 1986 so wasn’t available when you bought the Olympia One.

Thank you both for taking the time to respond to my questions. Lots of great information. I will start looking into Aerus and Ebay.

I did completely disassemble the Olympia One and cleaned everything and relubricated the motor bearings. Couldn't believe the size of the carbon brushes on the motor. There was still tons of brush left even after 40 years of use. The vacuum runs very well and looks great. Now, I just have to get a new hose and get that cord winder back working.

Had no idea the manual would be worth more than the paper it is printed on! I have a tendency not throw things like that away and it has been sitting in my file cabinet all these years. I also have the original sales receipt: $505.21 purchased in Orlando, Florida! So, you are spot on with what I paid for it.

Funny

So funny! When I saw my Mom’s Olympia manual in her drawer with other manuals I had to sneak a peek at it and inside was a newspaper clipping of a sale ad from the local Electrolux dealer in Bayonne, NJ where my Aunt who bought the machine lived advertising the Olympia on sale for $399 marked down from $489 “regular price” a $90 discount…this must have triggered the purchase as my Aunt bought the vacuum new in October 1982 and the sale ad was also from October 1982. Unfortunately the sale receipt is not included. I know she traded in a model L for it and I’m ever curious as to how much of a discount they gave her off that sale price to take the L on trade. After my Aunt passed away my in the mid 90s Mom took the Olympia. My Aunt unfortunately…well maybe fortunately, rarely, if ever… vacuumed…of course this means the house was dirty (but not cluttered) but on the other hand this means the Olympia got very little use during its first 15 years. Trust me when I say that… I saw the house periodically during that period and I never knew a house could get so dirty…I had to clean when I would visit because it was unbelievable and my late Grandmother who built the house and lived there until she passed away herself…was super clean and kept the place pristine so it was a shame to see such a beautiful house covered in excessive dust and filth. My Aunt had some mental health issues and was often belligerent and my Mom said she always disliked anything having to do with cleaning.
