Electrolux Model G

Hey Y'all! I decided to give my Electrolux Model G the "spa treatment" I need some advise on a couple of things. I dis-assembled the bag door and found that the automatic control had a hose that was not hooked up so after I polished the door I hooked up the hose and reassembled the door. I took the bag,..I dont exactly know what its called so I will call it the bag "basket", out and polished the outter trim, I put it all back together, popped a new bag in hit the switch, and well the door would not stay shut but for just a few seconds, so I got to looking and am wondering if there is supposed to be a hose that goes from were the door meets the "bag basket" were the little rubber gasket thing is to the back of the machine? I took the door back apart and disconnected the hose on the automatic control and it works fine again. I really love this machine, my Mom had a G and super J which are the fisrt vacuums I remember playing with other than my grandmothers, aka Bigmomma, tradition. I need a new hose for my G and really wish i could get a brand new original to replace the orignal I have which I know is totally out of the question, so has anyone come up with a way to re-seal woven hoses?

Am not familiar enough with the automatic system to answer the question about the hoses, but see the following thread for renewing old hoses. I tend not to worry much about the automatic shutoff on the Luxes; I just change the bag when instinct tells me to, but its nice to have it in working condition.

With the end of the year - etc., Haven't ignored the thread - just ain't had a chance to respond yet. Bob's link will provide info on the woven hose.

Here's a picture of the hose routing for my Lux "G". There should be three hoses. You can see where the one from the control unit goes to the nipple on back of the cover which lines up with the little gasket thingy you are speaking of.

Hope this helps.

If it still doesn't operate correctly, you may try taking apart the control unit and give it a good cleaning. (Watch out for springs shooting out). Also the nipple that goes to the suction inlet for the bag. If these get clogged - they wreak havoc on the system.

I wasn't the one asking the questions, but I certainly learned a lot by seeing the picture. I have learned just enough that I shouldn't go opening up / breaking into my cleaners because I never seem to get them back together correctly. Thanks for the thread.
