"Using a filter in LX, LXI, E & E-A machines is no longer necessary, and it cuts down air flow and causes the motor to run hotter."
Oh really, Charles? Well, last time I checked, that Electrolux 4 ply bag doesn't capture carbon dust emissions the motor produces, & the 4 ply bags DO let some fine dust through....not as much as many micro-filtration bags, but enough that a after filter IS necessary. As for making the vacuum motor run hotter & reducing airflow? What nonsense! For a after filter to reduce airflow signifigantly or make the vacuum motor run hotter, it would have to be really badly clogged, & it would happen if a neglectful owner didn't check & change the filter as needed on a regular basis. The ONLY reason Electrolux wanted users to remove the filter is because they were making the claim the 4 ply bag was so superior at retaining dust, the filter was no longer needed, & ignoring the fact that the motor still produced carbon dust emissions.
I think the fact that Electrolux Canada has ALWAYS produced machines with after filters, & that they were re-introduced in the 1980's in America with the 2100, is proof the after filters ARE necessary. So, Charles, maybe you should stop spewing Electrolux's corporate promotional nonsense when giving advice & try sticking to the facts.

PS - Staci, by the way, just so you know, part of my reason for stating these facts is my Mom was a professional housekeeper for over 37 years, & she used a Canadian Electrolux Model 89 to clean homes with. That machine as I stated above uses the same filter yours would have when new & before Electrolux phased out the after filter in America, feeling the bag was superior & it was no longer needed, & her machine is also very similar in design to yours as well. Mom faithfully used the after filters in her Model 89, as have I, & neither of us have EVER had a problem as Charles stated above. So trust me, I know exactly what I am talking about here, & you have NOTHING to worry about by using that filter in your vacuum.
