Hi!

I just purchased an Electrolux model E, from '54 or '56, and it has all it's parts, plus bags, except the air dust filters. I called an Aerus dealer and was told that they didn't have them. So where can I locate these, are they available, or ones from another brand that will work?

Thank you!

Staci

Just so you know, those filters ARE still available in Canada. They were discontinued in the USA & replaced with a cardboard insert, but here in Canada they were used on the 86, 88 & 89, until the Canadian metal canisters were replaced with the plastic AP100 canister in 1973. The new filter isn't the same quality though, it's much thinner. If you go into your local Aerus dealer, ask for a Electrolux Renaissance micro filter, it's much better quality, & you can cut that to fit & work in your Model E.

I just posted about the 100 vintage Electrolux vacs I found. I'm sure we have bags if you post a pic of what you're looking for I can search my hoard. I checked all the XXX's and each one has its original dust filters without holes. But some of the dirt in them is decades old hababa

When Electrolux introduced the multi-layer disposable bags (at some point during the latter production run of the E-Automatic), they instructed Electrolux users to remove the rear filter and replace it with a cardboard gasket that they supplied with new packages of bags. The gasket allowed the rear cover to fit tightly.

Using a filter in LX, LXI, E & E-A machines is no longer necessary, and it cuts down air flow and causes the motor to run hotter. The only advantage is that using a filter makes the motor sound less noisy.

"Using a filter in LX, LXI, E & E-A machines is no longer necessary, and it cuts down air flow and causes the motor to run hotter."

Oh really, Charles? Well, last time I checked, that Electrolux 4 ply bag doesn't capture carbon dust emissions the motor produces, & the 4 ply bags DO let some fine dust through....not as much as many micro-filtration bags, but enough that a after filter IS necessary. As for making the vacuum motor run hotter & reducing airflow? What nonsense! For a after filter to reduce airflow signifigantly or make the vacuum motor run hotter, it would have to be really badly clogged, & it would happen if a neglectful owner didn't check & change the filter as needed on a regular basis. The ONLY reason Electrolux wanted users to remove the filter is because they were making the claim the 4 ply bag was so superior at retaining dust, the filter was no longer needed, & ignoring the fact that the motor still produced carbon dust emissions.

I think the fact that Electrolux Canada has ALWAYS produced machines with after filters, & that they were re-introduced in the 1980's in America with the 2100, is proof the after filters ARE necessary. So, Charles, maybe you should stop spewing Electrolux's corporate promotional nonsense when giving advice & try sticking to the facts.

Rob

PS - Staci, by the way, just so you know, part of my reason for stating these facts is my Mom was a professional housekeeper for over 37 years, & she used a Canadian Electrolux Model 89 to clean homes with. That machine as I stated above uses the same filter yours would have when new & before Electrolux phased out the after filter in America, feeling the bag was superior & it was no longer needed, & her machine is also very similar in design to yours as well. Mom faithfully used the after filters in her Model 89, as have I, & neither of us have EVER had a problem as Charles stated above. So trust me, I know exactly what I am talking about here, & you have NOTHING to worry about by using that filter in your vacuum.

The heated retort above is uncharitable and uncalled-for. It was hurtful and disappointing to me.

I do not "spew corporate Electrolux nonsense." I am not a shill for Electrolux.

I was just relating what many vacuum cleaner repair people have told me over the years -- some of them Electrolux folks and some of them vac shop owners.

I was merely sharing some information that I hoped would be helpful.  I do not have any claims staked in this issue and will not debate it.

I feel that an apology for the unkind and false accusations are in order.
