The beige 55 shown in the croc skin is the 1 we had. We didnt have that small floor brush but we did have the big 1. Our pipes were the more modern lighter dull ones, but the hose handle was shiny and heavy. We had a beige rubber crevice, (my Nan had a dark grey rubber crevice tool with her 1951 z48, purchased the same year as our 55) but the rug noz shown is the same as ours was and the dusting brush, but we also had a black upholstry tool.The hose was exactly the same but broke by the handle quite early in its life, my dad complained and they sent him a replacement in turquoise and much more flexible with dull light chrome handle which now matched the pipes! meanwhile, my dad fixed the broken origional and it was rolled up and thrown in the back of a cupboard for a spare. when we eventually came to use it,(i think to give my aunt for her 65 it was too stiff to use!!!)

But yes that was our model 55 in that same skin, same colour with the silver ittalic sloping electrolux logos. bought in 1951 at co op stores Dudley ,West midlands. I think it came in a cardboard box , mind. It ran till 1984 and to quote my mother " worth every penny, the best £28 i ever spent"

i dont ever rember seeing the blue trident mensioned in this thread, the only tridents i recall were yellow with white ends in i think the z80 body..... do i have that right? AND AM I GOING TO THE LATE 1960S for that

Love all the information - Its really filling in the gaps.
Si - The Challenge is a really sharp looking machine. Did they make the parts in the red or the ivory?
Mike - I've seen the Australian machine before but what is the model number for it? We had a similar one (see below) and it was a Z54. We had three machines out at that time (1953-57). The standard machine ZB55-blue/black, the delux machine Z57-tan/brown and the cheap version Z54-blue/red. I've included a pic of the Z54 here

Mike, Love your 'Aussie Lux'. When it comes to finding beautiful vacs the High Priestess of Electric Suckers is certainly looking after you !!!!....wish my 62 hose was as good as that, it looks almost ivory in colour ?

luv that canadian sweeper, but what is the red gadget on the back? is it a cord store that screws into the the vapouriser port? do you know we never knew what that thresd was for as we never had a mothemiser or vapouriser and we had the machine 53 years!!

Hi Si - yep the item on the back is a halo for wrapping the cord around. It was an optional part (which the salesmen could throw in to close the deal) I have one in grey for the 55 thats still in the original box as well. It screws into the threaded rear cap same as the vaporizer. To my knowledge the vaporizer and sprayer were also optional parts with this machine but I've never found one of the instruction sheets to confirm this.
I find it rather ammusing that in the US they considered the dual attahments (comb rug/floor and comb dust/small) to be delux where as the Canadians considered them to be lower line.

Cheers Doug for that, what an exciting thread this has turned out to be! Well, for me anyway , as "the loaf" is my favourite series of vac ever, from the z30 right through to the yellow trident/z80, Ive really enjoyed tracing there quirky gadgets and modifications over the decades they were in production. There always seems to be something new to learn About them like the cord halo! yes your right about the dual tool. By the way doug, I do believe here in the uk the spray jar came as standard, well everyone i know , even my nan with her 48, had the sprayer as standard, but we didnt get the rad brush! We couldnt really for as long as we had rubber crevice tools, unless they made one to fit them too . Well mate i hope this carries on a bit longer and i can discover more loaf cylinder info! God bless

I am wondering if anyone has information on AB Electrolux's uprights and canisters since the mid- to late-1970s? If so , please post them. I am wondering when the new styles of each were launched--that looked so different from the longer squarish canisters and uprights.
Are the vacuum cleaners that are sold in the U. S. the same as those that are sold in other parts of the world (besides being wired for different voltage)?
