Electrolux model #1205 Armature

The armature that fits the model #1205, will it fit any other previous Lux motors??

I think:

it depends on what vintage the 1205 is. There were two iterations of it--I think the early 1205 had the same motor as the Model G, but the late 1205 had a different, more powerful motor. My guess is that if the 1205 in question uses a 535 watt motor and is from 1968-1970, the armature might fit a previous model Electrolux, like a G or an L.

1205 Armature

No mercuryman, you have it backwards, the 1205 armature will fit the late tan G, all 1205's and also the Golden Jubilee AKA 1210. That armature was the first armature to utilize the standard 38 MM ball bearing that most motors use. The early G's and prior had a 39 MM ball bearing. The larger more powerful motor came out in 1975 in the Super J, that is when Electrolux motors went from picking up 3 steel test balls to 4, it was quite a breakthrough in suction at the time. The 1205 armature also fit model L and model CB machines of that era also, if I would have to put a year on it I would say it came out in 1967 until arounf 1974 early '75. I have a couple of NOS OEM Genuine armatures from that era, if anyone needs one make me an offer.

OK....

just to be clear here from what I understand; the later G's (tan) had a more powerful motor than the earlier ones. That same more powerful motor continued on in the 1205. One of my G's will almost pull four balls. I assumed it had the more powerful motor in there as a replacement (it's turquoise), at some time or other. My daily driver 1205 has never been 'ball' tested. I think the more powerful G motor is supposed to be identified by 'white' brush holders?

OK I'm gonna say this, because I don't know how else to say it; I wish I had a set of those steel test balls. Sounds terrible I know, but just don't go there.;-)

Steel Balls

Kevin, Most model Electroluxes up to the 1974 Golden Jubilee will pick up only 3 steel balls, in 1975 when the Super J arrived and every model after that will pick up 4 steel balls. However, some people do change the motors in the older machines to sort of a hybred motor and it will pick up 4 steel balls, I have a model G that I actually put in a Miele motor and the machine passes the 4 steel balls, it pulls 125 on a vacuum guage where the original G motor only pulled about 85 on the guage. I made a "Super XXX" a few years ago for the 2008 convention, and it had a Miele motor in and it picked up 125 inches on the vacuum guage, I actually coupled it up with a Simplicity Power Nozzle and won the Monster Vac contest, the machine was a beast, I sold it on eBay and the buyer is using it as his daily driver, hat machine was unbeatable.

OK.....

now I'm really curious....how are you guys rigging a vacuum gauge? Are you using inches of mercury scales (must be from what you wrote), metric or 'other'?? Any pics (please)?
