Hi, I just joined Vacuumland today. I have both a Electrolux XXX and LX. I recently watched on a youtube a video of a LX picking up a can of soup easily. I tried it on my XXX it picked up without a problem. Then I tried it on the LX it couldn't pick it up. I've noticed for quite sometime that the LX suction is weaker, and the rear end makes roaring noises when the suction is covered with an object. I have a video. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

It could be that the fans are coming apart. When you take off the cover on the back end are you finding small pieces of aluminum?

Hans is Correct

The air leak comes from the rubber suspension mounting that the 'motor' is mounted upon. As the rubber dries out from time, one or more of the rubber suspensions is allowing air to enter at that point, decreasing suction at the hose. It can be replaced, but it will have to be robbed from another period motor (of which there are literally millions still left). I have an automatic E I need to do the same thing to.

Thank you Kenkart and Dysonman. I'll remove the motor and take a look at it. Kenhart, your Automatic E are you having trouble finding the part, or just haven't good around to looking for one yet?
