Electrolux Historical Claims

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I wouldn't take this seriously, a lot of these mom and pop stores will glean information of Wikipedia to make a quick little docket to post on the wall by the vacuum to educate customers on the model and their history.

Wasn't Filter Queen the first to have a hair dryer attachment?

Electrolux historical claims

Much of this seems accurate. The 4 ply self sealing bag and automatic control are great features. The above doesn't mention the tapered hose(improves air velocity and reduces clogs).Wheels are not mentioned and Elux would not be first tank on them.
A few quick comments--
cordwinder-Singer uprights had one earlier but this is about tanks.
vaporizor-Many early vacs used exhaust with vaporizor type attachment.Who was first???
air driven polisher-Eureka had one in 30s using exhaust air.Again who was first???
hedge clipper-?!?!???
hair dryer-Again many early vacs promoted using exhaust to dry hair but not always with a special attachment.
combination tools-The Elux rug/floor and dusting/upholstery attachments introduced in mid 50s are among the best.GE also had a flip over rug/floor attachment about the same time but the older Elux rug nozzle would also flip over.
power nozzle-Leywt,RCA Whirlpool/Kenmore and Elux all had power nozzles in late 50s.Lewyt had a non electric rotating brush nozzle in early 50s.Elux was best(and out lived Lewyt by decades)but may not have been first as they started with limited test market.
gear driven belt-I think Lewyt used gear belt even on their first electric nozzle.
Others will have more time and knowledge to add.

Looks like some nice vacs. I understand I have to be selective myself. Probably not everything on that list is accurate. Electrolux may have come in second but very close. Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your videos.

Lewyt was the first canister with an electric power nozzle I have one, thanks to former VCCC member, the late Mike Hayes.

Air-Way 55 had the attachment caddy in 1938.

General Electric had their flip-over combination rug/floor nozzle a whole year before Electrolux.

Air-Way 55 had air purification before as well as after the motor, plus Air-Way's bag was hundreds of times better at filtering. Filter Queen had wonderful air purification before as well as after the motor.

The vacuum cleaner industry always takes each other's ideas and tries to make then for less money in their own way.

Those are well stocked thrift stores.

Is there a habitat-for humanity store there? They sometimes have home goods and are more likely to have CV parts and power units.

I couldn't agree more

And most (if not ALL) the companies who had these design developments before Electrolux are no longer in business. Some, like Lewyt were forced into bankruptcy BECAUSE of these design improvements like the "zapper".

Great replies everyone

Kenny, thanks for your support.

Tom, I figured you would have some great historical knowledge of who had what when, so thanks for all your "corrective" info. I just love rooting out lies and deceptions.

Keith, there is a local ReStore very near me but to date, I've never seen any CV stuff. I do want to acquire a good condition CV (cheap of course) and test it. The results will be very upsetting to some I imagine so I'm not really looking forward to that video series comments.
