Electrolux Corporation Catalog of Copyrights

I happened to stumble upon the online Catalog of Copyright Entries and located quite a few entries from 1949 to 1983 of Electrolux Corporation's products & labels. For some reason, I was unable to locate some manuals such as the Olympia One's or Silverado's. It could be that they just weren't reported to the US office.

The Catalog of Copyright Entries, published by the US Copyright Office, contains a list of all copyright registrations received.

One that jumped off the page was the January 1961 copyright of the Model G's manual. Somewhere else I'd read that it was introduced in 1961 but the copyright of the manual (of several editions) is 1960. However, it must have been an oversight of the printing department not to change it from the Model R's manual cover (which had an identical picture). I wonder, then, if the Model G was introduced in January of 1961, or April of 1961 (the customary drive month)?

Users manual August 14, 1952. Was that for the new model LX? or the last of the model XXX? This really helps me pinpoint the exact date that the LX was introduced, a question that's bothered me for years.

If the LX was introduced in the spring/summer of 52 it clears up another personal question concerning the date my friend Jeanette bought her Electrolux.

Model LX manual, and Companion.

I happen to know that both the instruction manual and the ride on tool holder called the Companion were not ready when the LX was first sold. I have documentation with letters to Electrolux stating "just got the manual and tool holder," seems customers waited about 6 weeks for these.

I'm trying to pinpoint when I first saw the Electrolux model LX. If you go with the August 14, 1952 date, it's two weeks before my second birthday (September 2, 1950). It also confirms I was 2 years old when I saw it eject (around February of 1953).

I know it sounds like a small issue, but it's not! To me it solves a huge question that's puzzled me for decades.

In case you didn't read my latest post on the WMWC thread I also found this information:

Regarding the Model LX manual, the entry of August 1952 didn't reference "Model LX"; likely because the manual's title was "Electrolux Users Manual".

I don't trivialize others interests just as I appreciate them respecting mine. I'm glad the information I uncovered was interesting and helpful to you.

I'm thinking, though, that the copyright filing dates don't indicate the actual date of publication. However, they do help to narrow it down. Issues of ELECTROLUX NEWS would provide the information. They were listed in the copyright catalog, too, but I didn't copy that information.

It would be great if Aerus would publish its list of serial #s and production dates, wouldn't it?

Entry Corrections, et cetera

In copying the information, I mixed up the copyright dates of the models R & G (which were listed next to each other but had separate entries).

The Model R's manual was copyrighted 19Nov60, and the Model G's manual's was 13Jan61.

Also, the 6Aug63 entry's title should read "Better housekeeping the Electrolux way."

There are probably other errors I made. Feel free to double-check my information by searching Google books with something like: "Electrolux Corporation Model G" or "Electrolux Corporation Catalog of Copyright Entries".

The model LX was launched in December, 1952. A Good Housekeeping ad in December, '52 said "Introducing the Cleaner That You Never Have To Empty". According to the ad, it would be available shortly to be 'seen' in your home.

Two speed polisher?

I don't remember ever seeing, or hearing of any of the triple brush polishers being two speed. I've used them from every decade as far as I know. The earliest one I ever used was from before the shampoo tank was standard, and I think it had a T shaped handle. All I've ever seen were one speed. Release the handle, and off you go.

The polisher that matched the Automatic F had a two speed switch on the back. You release the handle to start the polisher, the step on switch changes speeds.

The first turquoise polisher, also designated as Model B7, had a two-speed motor.

It appears that the first version of the Model B-7 only had one speed. Why else would the later manuals have specified "two-speed"?

Also, I wonder if the entry “'Electrolux users manual'(in notice: 1952) 12Aug53" was for the Model E. If so, maybe the Model E was launched then instead of 1954.


Does anyone have a copy of a 1957 or 1958 triple brush floor polisher & scrubber manual, a Model B-7 without a speed switch, and/or a copy of a 1953 Model E manual?

The model E replaced the model XXX as the lower priced model in 1955. The LXI ran as the deluxe model until October of 1955, when it was replaced by the Automatic E.

Ok, thanks. Somewhere I'd read 1954 as the Model E's introduction year. I was just trying to figure out what manual was printed in 1953 that wasn't a revision (according to the entry).
