Hello!
Cleaning out my dad's house getting ready to move, I have unearthed these two vintage vacuums.
I am wondering how much each of these two beauties could be worth.

The industrial size Electrolux Model CB runs well and quiet, and the stainless canister is gleaming on the inside. It has it's wheels. The filter bag is in beautiful shape. Outside could use a good buffing, methinks. My dad treated some rust spots on the lid with Rustoleum, and also made a really good repair job on a crack in the plastic top with JB Weld and plastic screen. It's missing the hose and all attachments. My dad had it hooked up to the sander in his woodshop sucking up sawdust. The CB has a tan colored top and a reddish orange neck.

The General Electric swivel top model VIIC85 works like a dream. Aside from a little line of rust along the rim under the lid and a few scratches around, it's in excellent shape. Stainless steel pipes, flexible hose, duster attachment and sweeper with original wooden rollers on the underside are all here, and the cardboard disc inside the canister looks like it's new. The filter bag is solid, too. The cable retractor works perfectly well, and the wheels are good. This canister is teal colored with a white top and a white General Electric rubber ring around the middle. The plastic attachments and the plastic swivel top are yellowish white.

I realize that I have two very rare pieces here, and I plan to list them on craigslist before we move, but I can't figure out what would be their real worth, and their likely years of manufacture.
I'd appreciate any suggestions!
Neptune

P.S. I have photos, but they're not managing to upload from my iPhone!

The term "<a name="start_32915.360075"></a>piece" applies to diamond brooches, antique cabinets, original paintings. (Even at that, it is annoyingly overused, usually by people gushing away on Antiques Roadshow.) It does not apply to old vacuum cleaners.

It is hard to put a value on the vacuum without seeing pictures.

Your best bet is to put it on Ebay with a min bid of say $50.00.

Again with out pictures it is hard to even guess what they might bring. Both vacuums are good vacuums, the Electrolux CB is an awesome machine and there may be someone looking for parts, ect.

The GE is also a nice vacuum and Ebay would be a great way to sell it.

Search Ebay, both vacuums will come up and judge by those auctions what you think you might get.

Photos & Pieces

Re: Pieces, Roger that. What would you call vacuums?
Also: Trying again for some photos...I have more detailed shots, but at least...one of each!

Well, your "pieces" are pretty rough, especially the Electrolux. The only thing of any possible value might be the motor -- but given the overall condition of the machine, that's a crap shoot.

The G.E. is okay but it appears to have been painted -- I've never seen one in that shade of green before. But I may be mistaken on that. However, it has a hardware-store replacement plug. And the hose is a "Brand X" replacement, which would be fine for someone wanting a functional vacuum cleaner (albeit not the greatest performer in the Vacuum Cleaner Universe) and most likely of little interest to a collector. (The original hose would have been a woven vinyl material with a color-coordinated stripe running through it. If that is indeed the original color of the machine, then that's the color the stripe would have been.)

Hope this helps. Apparently I come off as being snarky sometimes when I don't mean to be that way at all. I'm just what one of my school teachers once termed "brutally frank."

Detailed Photos

It works! Here are more photos of both.
I found interesting threads about the Electrolux, but no information for this specific model of GE.
Do these photos show better? Thanks for the tips!

Well, I take back my comment about the G.E. appearing to have been painted -- it's obvious in the additional photos that it's the original color. But what I said about the cord and hose still stand.

Ok. I realize that you are not a collector....

But just beacuse a vintage vacuum cleaner "works", does not raise, or grantee a value to a collector. I know to you it might seem remarkable that a vintage vacuum cleaner may still "work", but the truth of the matter is, that in rough condition, with little or no orginal acessories present, it working, is the least of our intrest!

GE & Electrolux

The GE is one of their most deluxe from the early 60s.As above hose is replaced and would work well but not original.Missing are crevice and upholstery attachments (not difficult to find) and tool storage bin that hangs on hooks at side (more difficult to find). You should check that replaced plug is firmly attached and won't pop off with all the cord going inside the winder. These work well for many jobs and seem to last forever.
The Elux CB would be about 1967 with that color bumper and standard type Power Nozzle outlet. The machine was priced as one unit with the customer adding the hose and whatever attachments they might need. This vac would likely work well with any parts or service being easily available.
As to paint the GE has not been painted but the CB should be worth painting to a collector. The value of each might be $40-$80.

I used to have that same model GE. That's the original color mine was. I've never seen another one in that color before.
So was this CB the one matching the tan G and bronze L?

Hi Neptune! I might be interested in the G.E. when you decide on a price and figure shipping to zip code 30549 please. Thanks, Toby G.

Not a collector...

Thanks everyone, this is really informative.
I had no idea that vacuums have such collectible interest.
I'd love to hang on to this GE purely for the pleasure of using such a beautiful thing.
Unfortunately I spend half of every year traveling around the world, and the rest of the time in India on 220 volts. I'm amazed to see photos in this forum of all your collections...my first thought was how do you choose which one to use?
I see now that's beside the point.
Thanks to each of you for your time towards these two 'pieces'!
