I was given an Electrolux Cannister Vacuum, Model 1453, in excellent condition, with all attachments. I'd like to know the age of this vacuum, and what it's worth.

look at the power nozzle...

My guess is somewhere in the area of 1985-1990+, judging by the wheel covers. Diamond Jubilee (1984-87) had shiny metal and Marquis (1987-88) had colored. Grand Marquis (1988-94) had colored ones and was also blue, like yours.

The power nozzle may give a clue also PN 4 1976-82, PN5 1982-85, PN6 1985-89.

Hope this helps. You can go on the web and find the chart that Aeurus Electrolux posts of all their models since 1924.

Hope I was of some help.

Special model Electrolux

The Special took the place of the Mo.L about 79 in brown to match Olympia One(the deluxe automatic). The Silverado was introduced April 82 with the gray colors. The Special had no automatic control or chrome trim and had a cord wrap as standard. The above special is about 82 and would later have the PN5 and a color change when the Diamond Jubilee was introduced in 84.The bags, hose and attachments were same as deluxe models. The above Special is complete and looks very nice. The cordwinder was optional. You may be losing some suction if hose is leaking air or if foam between fan housing and bag chamber is bad.

Can't do day and hour but . . .

It has the very same power nozzle -- color and all -- that came with my Electrolux Silverado, purchased in the very early '80's. A rather nice rise to style for one of Lux's non-automatic models.

Looks to be in good shape.

I'm no expert, but this was an economy model to the deluxe Silverado. My best advice would be to check eBay. It appears to be in good condition. You could probably sell this to the average person at around one hundred dollars or less (just a guess).

For a collector it depends on how badly he or she wants this model. I can't really put a value on this for a collector, when plastic based convertibles; Elites, etc. Are going for more on eBay than they are actually worth, to begin with. I will never understand the mentality of some people.

Version 4 (colors complemented the Marquise/1521--originally posted in Vacuumland by louvac):

The L-Es were the plastic-bodied economy models that were sold concurrently with the Model 1453s, standard metal model 1521s and standard plastic model Hi-Tech 2100s. The successor to the economy models (for door-to-door sales) were the Ambassador IIIs. I don't know how many models there were or in what years they were manufactured. I believe the Lux Classics succeeded them as the economy models up to the current time.

When

I was service manager I worked on several Special models and they used 1205 Armatures and carbon brushes. The first 1205s used G armatures and the red carbon brush holders and carbon brushes. I should know because I serviced a 46 year old 1205 last week.

reading old threads can definitely be a wealth of knowledge

Was just looking at some old threads and found this one, and this has allowed me to figure out what model Electrolux my mom has. I've actually been wondering about this for a while, when we bought it, I was going in to third grade I think, I remember we bought it in the summer, and we had a very hot summer that year, I'm thinking it was the summer of 1983. My mom still has it and the motor still sounds great, I was over there the other day and took it out of the closet and fired it up. The hose definitely needs to be replaced though, it's the original cloth hose and the suction is less than half of what it's supposed to be. Even with the suction relief knob closed, when you put your hand over the end, there is still lots of air going through the hose which indicates that the material has cracked. I'm going to get a new hose for her. I couldn't figure out what model it was because the motor sounded like a 1205, but it was bought at a time when the motor should have been what was used on the Super J, Olympia, etc. It wasn't a model L because there is no pig tail on the hose, and it was bought new after the L was discontinued. When I was there the other day, she mentioned that she remembers paying extra for the cord winder. I don't remember that being mentioned, but I was walking around the store playing with the other vacuums when it was bought. There is also no knob to control the automatic shut off. I had not heard of the special edition before reading this thread, I've read a few articles on the history of Electrolux vacuums and that model was never mentioned, but after reading this thread, I'm quite sure this is the model she has. Since I'm blind, I can't tell what color it is, but as far as functionality goes, it sounds like it's basically a model 1205 without the automatic shut off control. I don't remember what power nozzle came with it other than to say that the short pig tail cord that plugged in to the wand was hard wired in to the nozzle, it was not a cord you could remove.
