Are these models rare or desirable? Are they updated versions of the 1205 model ( I grew up with). Any known problems with these? I read that the woven hoses can leak and be challenging to repair, but anything else to consider? I haven't inspected them yet.
What you have there is a Brown 1401-B Olympia One, and a mauve/dusty rose colored 1521 Marquis. Both are excellent machines. The O-One is an older model, made between 1978 and 1982, and the Marquis made between 1987 and 1988. Both have updated motors from the 1205 you grew up with, much more powerful. The O-One will run a little quieter than the Marquis, but both are powerful machines and if cared for will last many many years. The motors are easy to service, and there are some GREAT articles/tips on here about how to care for them.
You are correct that the woven hoses are prone to leakage, especially when they get some age on them, but I also see a vinyl hose on the Olympia that should be just fine to use on either machine. If they are both running good, and have reasonable prices, I would definitely pick them up, they are wonderful machines that if cared for properly will outlive most of us!
Yes, jump on it. The power nozzle alone will go for $50 on eBay.
Kelton--Yes, that's a 1205. They were made between about 1968 and 1973. That one appears to be from the middle of the run, circa 1970 or '71, later if the metal body is textured.
I personally feel this is the height of Electrolux product, power, long life, style. As the ads said in the day of my Silverado, it may be the last vacuum you ever need. They could still be right
I"m not a 'tank' kinda guy all that much...have a canister (Rainbow) and it shows me that I don't enjoy pulling it and it catching on the edge of a room/chair/ottoman etc thus, I"m more of an upright fella... so....Its a tougher sale for me to buy another one. On the plus side, all you guys speak highly of this brand/models, I grew up with one... and part of me wants that nostalgic 'itch' scratched.
The Olympia and other Electrolux canisters are really powerful despite how quiet they are, and you'd be surprised at how much neglect they can take and still function. They are great maneuverable cleaners.
Both of those power nozzles are chronologically wrong for those models, but they are all universal, so it's just a matter of personal preference. I like the angled L-shaped head because it can reach around all those pesky table legs.
Are you sure on the powernozzles being wrong for those models? I've been watching some videos on youtube and the ones in the ad photo are the same ones I"ve been watching vids on...
That version of the 1205 is my favorite of all Electroluxes, it was also the first I've seen. Of course Electrolux is one of my favorites because of this in general...
